Panahi released

That’s good news, although it says that he may still face trial. The worldwide attention during the Cannes Film Festival might have been a mayor reason for them to release him, if Panahi wasn’t as prominent they might have executed him as well. The Iranian government should be ashamed of itself and its totalitarian methods.

Well said.

Great News, indeed! hope finally this sick, shameful incident will be over. but still worried about what might ensue for Panahi and others in the name of a trial…….and more, if the trial does go in his favour, whether he will be “allowed” to still make films…

I hope he’ll join his equally illustrious compatriot Kirostami and leave Iran.

There should be some underground railroad to get him and his family out of Iran. I’d contribute funds to it, for him and other “dissidents” (or whatever the totalitarian regime calls them).

Good News. But there is still a need for awareness in countries were artists, dissidents are opressed.

-He should get out or Iran ASAP-

Even if that’s what he wants to do, that may be difficult because I believe he’s been without a passport since it was taken away by the government following his arrest in 2009.

-I hope he’ll join his equally illustrious compatriot Kirostami and leave Iran-

Kiarostami, of course, has enjoyed comparatively more freedom because he’s perceived as less politcal, both in terms of his films and his public persona.

My friend Medhi told me it`s not very easy to leave Iran, especially if you’re considered highly educated: “These people represent human capital in the Iranian economy and their leaving causes a loss for the country. Without educated people, the economic growth of Iran will be hindered.”

Panahi’s documentary “For Neda” is available for download… hard to say how long it will be up before censors take it down:
