I am so happy right now.
Whoa. I just noticed that the billboard itself says “PARIS”. Optical illusion, yeah!
This will be freaking awesome. Cannot wait.
Savvy
“Deleted scenes and Super 8 home movies”
can’t wait for this
It’s at the top of my queue on Netflix. Hope I enjoy it.
Great things really do happen in this world.
It was very near the top of my Criterion wish list. What a cover!
One of my favourite films of all time. I’ve got the Axiom release, I’ve never been one of those people with more than two copies of a film. But, you know… Paris Fucking Texas. 26th of January is the date I’m reading. Awesome.
Double post.
I bought the excellent MGM disc for $8.99, so I won’t have to lay down $28 for this one.
But what about the special features!?
Excellent!
But what about the special features!?
On the MGM disc:
• Commentary from director Wim Wenders
• Trailer – 16X9 – 2:12
• Deleted Scenes (with optional Wenders commentary) – anamorphic, original un-restored footage – 23:35
• Kinksi in Cannes footage – 4:3 – 4:41
• Still Gallery (53 titled images in click through slideshow)
So I’m a bit peeved that Criterion is expending over-taxed resources on replicating an already-excellent dvd when I know what they’re sitting on.
The Axiom edition has those too, but there are more, still. I appreciate your indignance, though.
Gringo Tex: Does your pitiful MGM release have a kickass cover? I doubt it.
the cover is nice. i am glad criterion is picking up wim films now. some of the the most beautifully photographed films i’ve seen. i assume you guys have seen his book of photos (http://www.wim-wenders.com/art/once.htm). amazing photography by wim. the actual book is incredible.
But this will be the first time it has ever been released on blu-ray right? I can’t wait.
Criterion did a new transfer. ’nuff said.
I would assume that anyone with the pretention to join an Auteurs list would have a multi-region DVD player. I would further assume that they would know enough to order Wenders films from Great Britain, Germany, or Italy. I have little enough room in my studio apartment to fill up with duplicate DVDs. My Paris Texas makes me happy, and I’ve had the pleasure for years. True, BluRay is a strong argument. But you just can’t have everything.
Oh, yeah, the cover is great (and the graphic style carries over on the other seven Wenders DVDs I own).
I own both “Wings of Desire” and “Paris, Texas” but I will be rebuying them for the transfers and the extras. And of course the packaging.
@Patrick: Some of us Auteurs are just plain simple folk. It would never occur to me to buy a region-free DVD player and order DVDs from overseas. I love movies but I am a patient man. And to quote you: “You just can’t have everything.”
@Greg- You can buy a region free player for $80 and order R2 dvds from amazon.co.uk for less than you would pay for a Criterion (and that includes shipping).
I will accept it as a Christmas gift, Gringo. Thanks, that’s very sweet.
that`s a gorgeous cover. probably gonna be getting this one
My favorite Wenders’ film. I have two copies already. Guess I’ll have three copies now.
Please, please, please tell me that a Criterion edition of “Until the End of the World” (the five-hour, trilogy version) cannot be far behind.
I have been looking forward to revisiting this gorgeous looking film for some time – so yay! It’s been on my to purchase list for awhile, just waiting for this, I guess. (That’s it)
Finally, Paris Texas will be available again! I’ve been looking for the current DVD, but it’s out of print. Glad to see it picked up by Criterion.
Now we just need the 5+ hour director’s cut of Until the End of the World! :)
Anybody happen to have the script on their computer? It hasn’t been published to my knowledge, hence no way of purchasing it. As a Sam Shepard fan, I’m crossing my fingers in hopes of a miraculously equipped samaritan.
Tobin.
I’ll get the champagne.
