I am unfamiliar with Patton Oswalt outside of Ratatouille and Big Fan , but I really, really enjoyed his performance in both. Big Fan needs more attention, methinks… that writer/director really has a thing going for him in anti-sports movie subgenre.

Interesting take on Gimme Shelter
I was gicving mad love to PAtton Oswalt in another thread and was shocked to find nobody thought he was worth mentioning in a thread of the best comedians. Then I got sidetracked into a ‘Dane Cook – is he funny – or LAMEstream?’ discussion.
…and I think the reason I thought Cook was funny enough while everyone else in the world hates him is becuz I was just listening to him on radio, whereas if you actually watch him visually he’s really manic ‘ham and cheese’ – just really mugs it up. So, now I can sort of understand the Dane hate.
Jesus, what am I doing here.

So I discovered his top 10 list. I’m a Big Fan of Patton Oswalt, especially his performance in [insert bolded title here] and Ratatouille. But listen to what he writes in his top 10-
On Amarcord: “God, I love huge breasts, and this one’s got two of the hugest-est. Also, it’s a coming-of-age teen sex comedy, but with fascism! Also, the boobs.”
A little bit crude, with that Patton Oswalt stamp of humor. But listen to how eloquently he describes Gimme Shelter;
“One of the best horror movies ever made. The whole movie is shot inside the belly of a quivering, invisible demon—the 1960s, rotting in the sunshine of idealism and about to burst with flies.”
I think that it’s kind of odd for him to go from humor and sparse descriptions to such righteous and ingenious commentary. Makes me respect him a lot more.
What do you think of him?
