Paypal for The Auteurs?

Aisbilen

Hello Everyone, I would appreciate some user feedback. If The Auteurs used PayPal instead of the current method, would more people feel comfortable using this known-to-be-legit transaction to pay for films on the site? For those of us who are very familiar with this site, we know we can safely rely on The Auteurs when we give our credit card info- but not everyone is familiar with our system. What do you think? Would more of your friends or family watch films on the site if they had the option to use PayPal?

If its a matter of one or the other, I would honestly be less likely to pay-for-view with paypal.

Could you state why you would be less inclined to use PayPal?

well its virtually the same thing, either way your giving your info to someone. how i see it, paypal just serves as a second barrier if anything else. I currently have my account linked to my card so it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me to use paypal over just direct card info.

although paypal is legit, it has been notorious in the past for security vulnerabilities and the like. don’t get me wrong, i use paypal extensively. but only on places where it makes sense like ebay and smaller vendors. I just don’t see the point if a shopping cart system or the like is already in place. if anything, people will be more hesitant if they have to go offsite to make a purchase.

If you add it as another payment option, rather than the only payment option, that would probably work.

Yeah, I don’t think it’s a good idea for it to be one or the other. If paypal was added as the only option it would seem, to me, a hindrance, and (as was said before) another barrier between me and the film. I wouldn’t mind if it was added as an option, but, it would bother me if it was the only option, even if I did still watch films on the site.

I think it’s a good idea. I’ve used Paypal for about 8 years and never had any problems with it. Offering multiple payment options would be a smart move.

Thanks guys for your input.
I’d really like to get a couple more comments from other users too, I can’t reach a conclusion yet.

I have had an unnecessarily complicated time with Paypal. I don’t like their service, I don’t like that they charge for the service (I know they are a business but it is a business we don’t need) and, frankly, I tend to avoid purchases that use it. Certainly, don’t consider making it the only payment method (some people have mentioned something like this above but there is no reason to think this was going to be the case).

I guess, at the end of the day, Paypal seems a little redundant and mercenary in it’s service.

How exactly do you propose to pay for items on ebay then? Also, they charge no more than your average credit card processor, and are much easier to use, especially on the part of the seller.

It’s not really redundant. Some Paypal users don’t have credit cards — just linked bank accounts. These people otherwise couldn’t buy film from here.

I don’t get some of these responses. PayPal is a better method, but I wonder, is the clearance of payment sometimes a lengthy one? Anyway, you don’t need a credit card for PayPal. Everyone has a bank account, but not everyone has a CC or desires one. This is a good thing. Also, you don’t incur debt with PayPal (if you use a bank account).

People criticize PayPal for charging which is ridiculous – they’re a business for crying out loud and their one-time-charge is child’s play compared to the high interest of a CC (and some CCs charge monthly fees as well). To call PayPal mercenary while letting CC companies slide is actually extremely obtuse and comical. Again, you can use a bank account with PayPal which clears it of a charge of redundancy.

PayPal is more inclusive, at least if you allow a few countries outside of the U. S. of A to use the bank account method. I agree though; there should be a choice between CC and PayPal.

I like the idea.

…actually Orphan Seasun not everyone has a bank account. Admittedly more people probably have bank accounts then credit cards but I know plenty of people who don’t have the former. Especially in low-income neighborhoods, most people still rely on cash rather then putting savings into the bank. Just drive down any relatively poor neighborhood here in the states and you’ll find that almost every liquor store offers the service to cash in paychecks because most of the inhabitants don’t have a bank to deposit to.

I think most people’s comments and mine included were speaking for a “one or the other” situation. Of course if Paypal was simply “added” there’s no problem. But I have to disagree that paypal is more universal then straight-up credit card. Tedhnically yes, you can do both card and bank through the latter but people are ignorant. The extra step to signup for an outside service will turn people off from purchasing at all much of the time.

And most credit card dont have fees from the first month, as long as you pay back a minimum so virtually there is no interest as long as your on top of your shit. Not to mention, the whole point of card is to buy when you don’t have money….that option isn’t really open when you are simply making a transaction from your bank account.

But as I said, if PayPal is simply being added as another option, I dont even see why this is a point of debate. Just add it and those that prefer it, will use it. And those more inclined to pay by card wll continue.

…Its sort of why those less tech-inclined will shop more frequently through services like Amazon rather then Ebay. We go with what we trust no matter how superficial that trust is.

Would love it if you guys added Paypal as an option. Lots of people keep a few bucks, if not more, in their Paypal accounts just for things like these. I do open source and have money ready to go…

Just add it as an additional option? Heck, I’d be happy to pay the 3% Paypal charge on top of the fees as well…

I think that PayPal MUST be an option. Myself ( and many others) feel safer with this method instead of introducing my credit card info often. Generally I try to avoid purchasing on the web if paypal is not available

Some of these responses are hilarious! It sounds like there should be an option to pay with cash – that’ll solve everything!

To go back to the original question, the intention seems to be whether the site should use Paypal as way to get more people buying movies. But from what I can tell, most people are getting hung up on Paypal itself, not the current system, which sort of answers the question that most people don’t have a problem with the current system. I would include myself in that – I don’t mind paying directly through the site.

I freely spend with my Paypal account for services like this. I think many times over before using a credit card and therefore I am hung up on the current system.

Definitely. I rarely use my card online, whereas I use my PayPal account freely and loosely.

PayPal would be an absolutely wonderful idea. After having watched my parents wallow in debt thanks to credit card after credit card, I refuse to jump on the train. I have a PayPal account hooked up to my chequing account and that’s good enough for me!

Is there no way to have both methods available??!

I would be great to have Paypal added as an option.
I’m more reluctant to add a credit card, than trying a new system with Paypal.

I would like to use Paypal, there’s no other way to pay for the films for me in my country.

As a student, I don’t really want to carry around a credit card – all sorts of worries about losing it, paying extra fees etc. It just doesn’t make sense to have one. As a result, I only use paypal or my debit card (which only works within my country).

I would like to see Paypal on the site. It is literally the only thing preventing me from buying credit. There is simply no other reason.
