America would never give an Oscar to a communist.

he was due in 1980 when he returned to commercial film with Every man for himself. I would rather someone like Redford get one. He is a good director (not a great one like Godard) that actually seems to care about such things

Redford, I believe, got an Honorary Oscar back in 2001.

I’m sure Godard has admirers within the Academy but I doubt he’ll accept the Honorary Oscar if they voted to give him one.

Manoel de Oliviera, who has had a very prolific career and is still working at the age of 100, is someone who could sure use an Honorary Oscar (it’d give his films a higher profile).

Even if he denies it, I think the Academy should at least award him with the honorary Oscar. Godard is one of the great mavericks cinematic history and an influence for generations of filmmakers (myself included). Its stupid if they don’t recognize that fact and I’m sure it would be a hell of an event if he does show. And with that said, there are so many other directors to award the Honorary Oscar to as well including: Werner Herzog, Chris Marker, Alain Resnais, David Cronenberg, Terrence Malick, Jan Švankmajer, David Lynch, and would it be too soon to include Wong Kar Wai on that list as well.

If Godard wants an oscar his actors better start speaking some damn English.

I guess Jack Palance was not enough

I think David Lynch, David Cronenberg and Wong Kar-Wai are a tad too young for Honorary Oscars. They still have quite a few films left in them.
