haha. not because of Tess of the D’Urbervilles…
In Switzerland they had brotherly love – they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? Polanski´s arrest. So long, Holly.
^ I love you, Apursansar’s post!
Well, the moral is here…if you’re a 45 year old man, don’t have a sex with a 13 year old girl.
Unless you’re a Catholic priest and the 13 year old girl is an 8 year old boy. Then there’s another moral.
@ Gringo Tex, huh? How is there another moral? It’s wrong for a Catholic priest to have sex with an 8 year old boy, and it’s wrong for a 45 year old world famous director to have sex with a 13 year old girl.
It’s an attempt at wit, Bluedingo. Get with the times, old man.
@Blue K- The US won’t have a foreign government arrest the priest. You’ll have to ask them why there’s another moral.
What about countries with legal age consent 13 (or less)? Doesn’t that give the moral a geographic and cultural edge?
Yeah, it’s irony Blue K. ;)
Blue, I think his point was the priest won’t necessarily be arrested.
@ Gringo. Dude, I’m not an apologist for the Catholic church. I’m not even a Christian. But what are you saying? It’s okay for world-famous directors to have sex with 13 year olds because Catholic priests are doing the same thing? Huh?
It’s worng for mothers to pimp out their daughters too. That’s what happened in this case, as is screamingly obvious.
Such great timing for this arrest — hours after Susan Atkins took her dirt nap.
@Blue K. Don’t put words in my mouth so you can have a strawman to argue with.
Blue K: I think Gringo’s point is the hypocrisy of the legal actions against a priest who does it and those of Polanski’s situation.
Arrested? Okay. Extradited? Uh, maybe.
I personally think (tongue wedged firmly in cheek) that legends should be able to do and get away with whatever they want.
Josh: Does Gringo have evidence that the federal government actively ignores priests accused/convicted of child molestation who seek asylum in other countries?
@ Josh S & Gringo.
I understand the selective prosecution. And that’s fucked up. But all people who exploit CHILDREN for sex should be prosecuted. What I’m saying is, Polanski deserves what he’s getting. He’s a great filmmaker, but I don’t give a shit. Judge Polanski for what he did. Don’t say, “Polanski should be excused, because people who’ve done the same thing have gotten away with it,” That’s very very bad logic.
Blue K: I’m not saying what he did should be condoned and I don’t think Gringo was either.
Bolo: I can’t say since I don’t know what he actually thinks, I just saw him make a joke, nothing more.
Don’t say, “Polanski should be excused, because people who’ve done the same thing have gotten away with it,”
Nobody’s said that. What are you on about?
The law should be applied equally. At all levels, without favour or hypocrisy. But there’s often a misconception in many countries; different nationals assume their own values and legislation apply elsewhere, whereas there’s great diversity on the age of consent.
@ Gringo,
“Unless you’re a Catholic priest and the 13 year old girl is an 8 year old boy. Then there’s another moral”
That was your first post in this thread, which doesn’t address the issue at hand, but just obfuscates it. What are you talking about?
Terrible news indeed! Poor Roman, hope he gets out of it somehow… :(

Such great timing for this arrest — hours after Susan Atkins took her dirt nap.
Ha ! I just watched The Tenant
I’d been staying away from the forum for a while; I finally come back and read this entire thread.
There are enough laughs here for my entire day; seriously, how effin’ entertaining this whole thing is.
There are 2 issues here. The charges (which the accuser wants thrown out by the way). And more importantly, the fact that the Swiss arrested him. Looks to me like the US tells Switzerland to jump and the Swiss say “How high?”.
Here’s Roger Ebert on the very good documentary froma few years back

@strawdawg – “Looks to me like the US tells Switzerland to jump and the Swiss say “How high?”.”
Nah, the Swiss just suck and like to hand over people, The Bergier Report states that Between 25.000 to 30.000 refugees had been refused access to Switzerland and send back to Nazi controlled regions during WWII. The real moral here is… stay away from Switzerland if you are Jewish. :(
David, don’t you know that people don’t want the facts to get in the way of a good story. People want sensationalism, fantasy, CNN.
strawdawg
“He was taken into custody while attempting to enter Switzerland due to a request by U.S. authorities in connection with an arrest warrant from 1978”
from CNN.
Leave it to the Swiss.
