Addition: how in the hell did I leave out Sofia Coppola? She’s making better movies since late 1990’s than her dad who was once the master but not in past 15 years—Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation and Marie Antoinette, both of these movies make me smile as I watch and later think about them.

It was made by Peter Weir who also directed The Last Wave.
Moonfleet, can you specify at least one film by Peirce and/or Varda?

Kenji
Sekzee; the rule is for at least 5 different directors. The main reason for this is cos with the poll of Spanish and Portuguese films short lists tended to skew the results to the more seen usual suspects, so if you could add a couple more you like that would be great. Bobby thanks, but i’m only following what Sight and Sound did when a respondent said anything by Chris Marker and Jane Campion, and most of your favourite auteurs will i’m sure do fine anyway even without the extra films you wanted to add. If i allowed all their films it would go over the 20, must have some rules!
