CORRECTION: THE KILLER INSIDE OF ME dir M Winterbottom is in compet lineup at Berlinale.
Add the Rum Diary to the list
Sokurov’s “Faust” and Malick’s “The Tree of Life” are the films I’m looking forward to, please keep us updated about further releases that can be expected in 2010.
It almost killed me that TREE OF LIFE isn´t selected for Berlin. But in fact it is the film I am looking most forward and if this film comes to the theatres in my city, I will spend a whole day with it.
MORE FILMS POSSIBLY SLATED FOR 2010 CANNES
POETRY Lee Chang-dong (OASIS) Takeshi Kitano
Autoreiji/THE OUTRAGE
NEDS – PETER MULLAN (THE MAGDALENE SISTERS)
SOCIALISME – Jean-Luc Godard
SOMEWHERE – Sofia Coppola
Correct me if I’m wrong but Fincher’s new film is about Facebook, yes?
There is always one box office spectacle I am hoping for Stallone’s The Expendables
I think Coppola’s film is a given
as is Godard’s Socialisme
and Robert Redford’s The Conspirator (if its ready)
Correct me if I’m wrong but Fincher’s new film is about Facebook, yes?
YES.
Also, Abbas Kiarostomi’s new film is possible THE CERTIFIED COPY starring Julliet Binoche.
Godard at Cannes ’10 … oh boy!
Never knew about Fincher new film…have to see this film follows up to Zodiac..
Tree of Life and Faust are definitely the films to look forward to.
If Brillante Mendoza will keep his word that he’s not joining this year, well, we can be sure there’s nothing to look forward to from him, who’s almost always a Cannes Film Fest fixture and a regular darling of the Croisette..
But given the director’s flair and speed in making a film, which brings to mind his competition entry both in Cannes (Kinatay) and Venice (Lola) in 2009, well, we may have another candidate in the offing. Because I repeat, he can make a film in less than a month.
Well, apart from Malick, none of the names so far excite me that much (unless Godard has an extraordinary change of direction)!
Lee Chang-dong, Aleksandr Sokurov and Peter Mullan are the names so far i’m most excited about
(assuming they will participate)
i wish i could say the same for Malick but the cast doesn’t look promising enough and the story (IF it’s a valid one) sounds too simplistic even for Malick.
I’m interested to see how Fincher’s new movie turns out, being about Facebook and all.
Does anyone know if Bela Tarr’s new film will be released by the time Cannes rolls around. Most likely it won’t, but I’m interested to hear how long we will have to wait for The Turin Horse. I know Jesse Richards is a big fan of Tarr, so he may know something.

It’s looking very unlikely that Sofia Coppola’s movie will be playing at Cannes.

Thanks for the longer list Kevin: i’ll be very interested to see if Tran makes a decent fist of Murakami’s Norwegian Wood. Good to see Iosseliani among the possibles. Is The Housemaid a remake of the Korean classic from 1960 i wonder. A top notch Tarr would be exciting. Man from London didn’t quite live up to its potential i think
Kenji ,it is a remake. It’s funny because Kim Ki-young himself remade The Housemaid a few times.
Im Sang-soo isn’t that great a filmmaker. I have a feeling this version of Housemaid is going to be a serious dud. And yes, Kim Ki-young did remake his Housemaid several times, most notable of which are Insect Woman and Fire Woman.
On the other hand, I have a feeling Lee Chang-dong’s Poetry is going to be very very good.
Lee Chang-dong has a new film ready? That makes me very happy. I hope it will be very very good too.

Ridley Scott opening the fest with Robin Hood, anyone call that?
Well, at least it’s not in competition.
Woody allen’s you will meet a tall dark stranger
Tree of Life by malick
Gerard Depardieu in Francois Ozon’s Potiche
Wall Street 2 are confirmed
Yeah, last year Up, and this year Robin Hood.
Robin Hood looks old hat. I’ll be suprised if it’s good.
Looking forward to Malick, curious to see Godard.
Tree of Life isn’t confirmed yet. There were rumours that it would open at Cannes, but seeing as how Robin Hood is officially the film to open those rumours have been squashed.
um, sylvester stallone??
I think Tree of Life will be in competition (and likely slaughter all others). But it was originally planned for Dec. 25 2009 release and was pushed back, so it can’t be too far away from being finished now. I’d bet its at Cannes in one way or another.
