I did post Japanese music some time back, will do some more then, later…
For all you fans of Japanese Salsa
I’m eagerly awaiting the announcement of the 2012 Coachella line-up, so since I’ve been thinking about it, I’ve been poking around old threads on their website. One thread reminded me just how good Fever Ray was in 2010. So I had to go play some Fever Ray. Here’s “If I had a Heart”:
^
^ Another good one :)
Digitata:
A Welsh band that seems to be getting quite well known
Josh, I like that.
Kenji, I’m a big big fan of The Joy Formidable. I’m glad that they made it out here to Northern California several times this year. I bet if they are back next year, they will be in a lot bigger venues. (Good for them; not so good for me.)
Miguel Miggs – The Distance (feat. Aya)
Quantic – Life in the Rain
^ Both those are good, particularly the Migs.
@Downbylaw: as an old fogey i’m not up on young bands these days but as official Taff-finder general (as Wales on Sunday once called me), The Joy Formidable have come to my attention. Ritzy Bryan has the spark, i expect they will grow in popularity too, and looks like they’re cracking North America.
Kenji, to say that Ritzy Bryan “has the spark” is a woeful understatement. Their album is very good, but Ritzy live—stunning.
The Joy Formidable played here in Northern California four times this year and they also played down south at the Coachella festival. I do hope they come back several more times next year as they are my current favorite live band.
Jeff, I love that Mekons album although I haven’t played it in a long time. Great choice. So many good songs on that one.
Yeah i didn’t want to overdo it, but that spark is not just any old spark, it’s a rare thing- many want it, few have it, it’s not something that can be manufactured or laboured or faked. No surprise to hear they’re great live. It’s ages since i’ve been to a rock concert but that would be a very tempting one. I’d be there on the front row flinging myself around and then off to hospital
Yeah, that Migs/Aya (the beautiful Lysa Aya Trenier for those of us in the know) is real cool n funky, good work Ardhi.
Yesterday it was contenders as British- or let’s say English- national anthem. Here’s one for Scotland
And one for the North of Ireland:
Kenji
Another contender for national anthem
