Ah, Patti Smith and Betty Davis. Yep.

So you have the countries of Britain covered. Don’t remember ever hearing the Undertones, but I cannot think of any other band that I know to be from North Ireland either.

If we cross the border and head down into Ireland, I’ve got a band that I really hope will do a U.S. tour since I think they would be fantastic live:

Fight Like Apes

Kenji, ‘Teenage Kicks’ is a classic, but i’d think the Northern Irish song would be more something like Them’s ‘Gloria’. one of the most covered rock songs ever.

DOWNBYLAY, I like that song. You are filling my iPod up with some great new tracks. Here’s two great live performances from Poliça:

Josh, that’s cool, glad I can help. Fight Like Apes have a lot going on in their music that I really like. And everything I’ve read suggests that MayKay lights it up on stage. I’ve looked back through their concerts, and they played a couple of shows in New York in 2010, but mostly they stay in Ireland and the UK and only rarely even go to Europe. I wish they would come play some festivals since I think they got what it takes to be a hit in that scene.

I like those Poliça songs, particularly the second one. So they are also members of Gayngs? I didn’t know about this, so that’s something new for me to check into.

Purity Ring is touring with Neon Indian. Do you think the picture has helped drive hits? It’s over a million.

Thanks, DOWNBYLAW & KENJI. Great collection of music.

Some more for you:

Oh, I’m going to make sure Jazzaloha sees that Belaaks one.

Ardhi Syaifuddin, have you seen this guy dance:

DOWNBYLAW — Yeah, I think they would definitely be a hit down here. I wonder what’s keeping them… Their albums aren’t even available on iTunes! Crazy.

That Fol Chen song has a really cool sound! Haven’t heard of them either.

Josh Hansen

Scratch that. Their album IS on iTunes. I was searching for Flight Like Apes instead of Fight Like Apes for some reason… haha

DownByLaw

Ah, that’s funny. Yeah, I was thinking that it would be weird if iTunes didn’t have them since Amazon has them, and they are not super obscure or anything.

Fol Chen played with Fujiya & Miyagi out here in San Francisco last spring, but I didn’t get to it. Since they are from L.A., I figure I should get another chance if they stick together. They were one of those bands that used secrecy as a promotional hook. I’ve never been a fan of that tactic, kinda annoying really.

The Coachella 2012 line-up is out, and there are lots of acts that I’m psyched to see. One thing that is cool is both The Big Pink and Band of Skulls will be playing. They were both at Coachella 2010 and were each one of the high points of that festival for me. So having them both back will be like old times again.

Here’s a song from the Band of skulls upcoming album:

DOWNBYLAW, that lineup looks stellar! I can’t believe Refused is getting back together. They were one of my favorite bands in high school. Man, I’m extremely jealous that you are going now!

DownByLaw

Yeah, Refused and At the Drive-In too. Sounds like both those bands are getting back together particularly to play Coachella.

People throw out all kind of rumors, of course, but I was sort of expecting St. Vincent and EMA to play. Glad I was right about that. Didn’t expect The Black Angels, so that is a pleasant surprise.

There is a cool video for The Black Angels “Doves”, but I couldn’t find it just now. So here’s “Bad Vibrations”:
