Mysteries of Organism isn’t that bad, Sweet movie is pretty disgusting so avoid that. Oshima has plenty of normal movies, the graphic ones are pretty easy to tell apart by the titles.
You don’t want your parents to see Sweet Movie.
It is much worse than Clockwork Orange. Think weird german/eastern european porno passed off as a movie.
Dimitris:
ignore Jason and his limited film knowledge and start off with Innocence Unprotected with Makavejev. this will prepare you for the satirical purposes of Mysteries of the Organism. if you loved Suzuki, i don’t think you’ll be disappointed with Makavejev’s Dionysian vibes. Sweet Movie is even better than Salo in terms of provocative material because it’s more “in your face” politics than anything else. P-O-L-I-T-I-C-S!
moreover, Clockwork Orange would wish to become the true masterpiece of debauchery Sweet Movie is. don’t trust people who don’t like diverse cinema. any Makavejev film PRIOR to The Coca Cola Kid is a masterpiece
with Oshima i’m no expert but Cruel Stories of Youth is extremely truthful in its course-reaction of youth in revolt of the period. the soft-core Empires are for cult fans but the first part is pretty “accurate”, whatever that means in sexuality terms, hehe. avoid his last films and i personally want to seek Boy and Death by Hanging. someone else please support Oshima for me (not his Japanese cinema opinions though)
Yeah, Clockwork is middling Kubrick. I haven’t seen SM yet but WR was intriguing enough to hook me in.
In Sweet Movie a man stands stark naked with a golden painted penis and pisses on a girl.
Later a completely nude woman fondles herself in a tub of chocolate.
You can see some clips on youtube.
ignore Dimitris because he’s not even allowed to post on this site, and has to have fanboys do his bidding.
If you want debauchery there are plenty of websites for that.
I like diverse cinema. I made no judgement on Sweet Movie, other than to say that its not a film that you want your parents seeing, if you are asking a question about if its a movie that your parents might see.
i think you should watch these with your parents and post back their reactions. might be worth a larf! But be forewarned, these are at the avant end of avant-garde films, especially SWEET MOVIE. Child porn, for starters? Bit of that. Stunt shitting? Yep, check….
Dimitris:
“In Sweet Movie a man stands stark naked with a golden painted penis and pisses on a girl.

they’re all part of the defiled irony of Makavejev towards idiotic North Americans. what, is Three Stooges your only form of satire?
“ignore Dimitris because he’s not even allowed to post on this site, and has to have fanboys do his bidding.

i have more right to post on this site than people like you. people like you should be muzzled / banned, not me. the AUTEURS personnel is too busy changing names though than valuing its real members.
you’re such a “pure” viewer Jason you can’t stand that kind of debauchery, which is…kind of sad.

I have heard their some of their movies contain some graphic stuff. I have no problem with this, I can appreciate whatever the director is trying to say and what not, but sometimes my parents watch parts of films with me and I was wondering if this could be misunderstood. Are some worse than A Clockwork Orange?
Which of their movies should I watch if some are too much? Which are the ones to “avoid”?
Thanks.
