Questions regarding Cria Cuervos

1. How old is Ana? Shouldn’t she be old enough to read? After all, she’s old enough to sew, and her younger sister is shown reading aloud (albeit with difficulty) from a comic book.

2. Her mother told her when she was younger that a can of baking soda was deadly poison. But how can Ana continue believing this once she can read the label?

3. At an early point, Ana is shown tasting the baking soda. I’m not sure if she’s trying to kill herself, or if she had started to wonder if the can really was poison. Having tasted it with no ill effect, how can she continue from that point to believe it is poison?

4. Is Paulina really unaware that her brother-in-law was a philanderer?

5. About how old are the other two girls?

6. Was the flying sequence a misstep?

7. The first time Ana opens the fridge, we see a plate of chicken’s feet. We see the chicken’s feet again when she closes the fridge, and one more time when she opens the fridge later in the film. ON the latter two occasions, the camera zooms in a little, and lingers. Isn’t this unnecessary? The viewer is bound to notice those chicken feet without any undue emphasis. Another slight misstep?

(These are just questions. I loved the movie to pieces).

Alas, I have yet to attain to such an exquisitely rarefied sensibility that I could watch a movie seven times without a single thought crossing my mind.
