you forgot GERTRUD
Unfortunately, I’ve seen very little and must rewatch the bottom two.
Vampyr – Der Traum des Allan Grey (1932)-————————-
The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928)
Day of Wrath (1943)
I’ve only seen Vampyr.
@ Raphaela: I sadly haven’t seen “Gertrud” yet.
Gertrud sucks
‘Gertrud sucks’
Brilliant! I haven’t seen Gertrud but I admire you for stating your opinion so baldly, and with so little regard for the potential firestorm that may be headed your way. Seriously. Bravo.
Gertrud sucks said Jason and gave Alexander 5 stars
i must disagree with jason, gertrud is one of my fave ever and surely my favorite dreyer so far, second place would be ordet, followed closely by the passion of joan of arc
I can only agree with rajiv saying that gertrud is dreyers best film. Its about love and idealism, where you have gertud who sacrifies her life for her ideals. It also parallels dreyers carreer, where he have never been willing to compromise, even if that meant waiting 10 years before he can shoot his next film.
We cannot exclude “The Parson’s Widow” (available on Netflix.)
It is, by Dreyer’s standards, rather conventional, but it has a subtlety of acting, especially by the widow, which is very appealing.
