Revisiting this film last night, not expecting to hear the news of his passing this morning… I remember watching La jetée for the first time, and thinking/feeling that I will never experience something like this, by another, again. Marker on Tarkovsky, but still shows his poetics:

“He told me he had a dream. An angel came to Andrei and said, ‘You will make nine movies.’ Andrei said, ‘Only nine?’ And the angel said, ‘Yes, but they will be very good movies.’ And Andrei smiled and said, ‘That I can accept.’”

Marker made more media than Tarkovsky said but in a sense one could tell the same narrative about him, as like all things Marker its his story and ours too.
