girlfriend and i saw a Bond/Milk double feature.
….both had references to Tosca oddly enough.
the counterfeiter (2007) Loved it! 90/100
Werckmeister Harmonies (Bela Tarr) 100/100. This will be the cinema reel in my mind for what I would rate others for quite a long time.
The other day I watched Carlsen’s HUNGER (1966).
As a starving writer myself (not as starving as Oscarsson’s character thank goodness, haha) I can sympathize with the cycle of creation/literal and metaphorical starvation illustrated in the film. I thought the realism was nearly maddening (in a good way) and Oscarsson’s performance was top notch.
Adam – I have that MST3K set as well and I love it. I think Future War is my favorite…just for all the flannel and cardboard. I’m excited about the set they are rolling out in February as well. Final Justice and Soultaker!
Noriko’s Dinner Table
Sequal to Suicide Club(kinda) and I thought it was brilliant. 98/100
out of this world and I love it.
Au Revoir Les Enfents
4.5 out of 5
Ace in the Hole = 87/100
In The Name Of The Father = B
Double post, sorry.
Step-Brothers – 6/10
Liked it a lot more than I thought I would. I guess it’s pretty bad, but I have to admit it had me rolling at some points. Not a bad throwaway, dumb comedy if you’re bored and in the mood.
Hitchcock never lets me down, and Cary Grant is a very pretty guy. I’d lick his eyelashes. That’s not gay, right?!
Lars and the Real Girl 95/100
The elements of the Noh Drama— the makeup, string music, and chanting— all blend to create a ghost story that is uniquely haunting and surreal.
Last film I watched was last night, The Times of Harvey Milk, documentary from 1983. Rating 8/10. Can’t wait for Gus Van Sant’s Milk.
Quantum of Solace. Not as good as Casino Royale, but good.
The Taking of Pelham 1,2,3-5/5 classic!
just watched a british crime film from 1957 called “across the bridge”, adapted from a graham greene piece, starring rod stieger. it was pretty bad. boring, weak story and weak acting. 3 out of 10.
Out of Sight
Taut thriller, great cast. Kind of a hidden gem, I suggest many people check it out.
In The Mood For Love
The Virgin Suicides
The Virgin Spring
The Lady Vanishes
Grand Prix 3/4 stars. Photography and sound is out of this world.
Tokyo Story by Yasujiro Ozu.
Watched it again last night. Rating systems of any kind don’t apply. It cannot be improved upon.
Sunset Boulevard 84/100
Did not enjoy it nearly as much as I expected, but it was was very good. Probably my fourth or fifth favorite Wilder movie.
imamura’s ballad of narayama: 9/10 :)
Religiulous. Hillarious. apparently no one in missoula gets jew jokes. i was the only one laughing. 9 out of 10.
“One Eyed Jacks”
What a great film. Brando at his best. Criterian…please save this film w/ a restoration!
