Revanche and modern recent Austrian/German film

Just watched Revanche.I’m sorry, but it seemed like Gotz wanted to really indict Vienna as being a den of immorality where only the corrupt survive, is it in any way an accurate reflection of the city? The way it was portrayed, I thought of a modern version of Berlin from Fassbinders take on Berlin Alexanderplatz.
It’s funny, the only times I’ve seen Vienna or Austria on film is either as a den of sin, with  prostitution, repressed sexuality, perverts preying on E.European girls, bigots and racists, especially of the xenophobic variety—or the Third Reich. In honor of the master director Lars Von Trier,a Jewish, ahhemm, excuse me,a Nazi director :
lilja 4-ever who cam ever forget the anonymous Austrian men who paid rape the protagonist, locked in some attic, as if she is a used condom they found on the street, as if she wa-ACJOO- ‘scuse me, a non entity that had no morality or soul
The Piano Teacher- and who can ever forget the vomit breathed BJ and after-oral kissing, the pitiful begging for abuse and vile poetry of Huppert’s character,  her penchant for fresh ironed brown shirts, sexy polished jackboots, tucked in trousers,master/slave head games- to make a long story short, good ole healthy bondage of Naa-sneeze variety
Foreigners out! austrians haven’t lost th—Ahhhem-immler touch, sorry must the allergies
Bennys Video who can ever forget the psychotic kid who thinks that killing his girlfriend is equal to killing a farm animal, and the parents who seem to be fine with a murderer for a son, even have hopes that their  sociopath son might some day rise to political power-ahem-hitler-cough,achoo-foourth reich chachew- wow bad allergies
The 7th Continent killing your family a more tolerable than living in a city whose jobs include working in the most bleak, soul killing environments pressing indistinguishable buttons, the Vienna Joesph Menegal Memorial Hospital
The Edukators a group of, ahem, “left wing” students decide a great way to contribute to the “struggle” is to kidnap and threaten a kindly successful business man who is also an excellent father kids, oh man agai—Aaaacccchhhiellhitlerooooo!-sorry must be season— simply because he had the gall to have a modestly nice modern house
Funny Games A couple, their son,and the golden retriever of course don’t deserve to live, again because they can afford a decent comfortable house by a lake and also the wife has a Americaner ShamWow
Our Daily Bread I mean I knew Americans have some horrible factory farms but once again the Austrians take the cake for creating dehumanizing environments, where even if they weren’t treated with the same care and value of a golfballs at a ball-and-widget factory, the animals would probably still be trying to jump off the top of the silo. They have yet again taken the industrial revolution to the  absurd final sol-I mean-conclusion in relation to the lives of living beings, both animal and human-meaning all life is a glorified machine worth absolutely nothing, morality is a mental hallucination, and no person or beast has any inherent social function other than the efficient production of wealth for the state
If you are Austrian or German and are offended by this, let me say, I’m an American so I consider myself as being citizen of a country high on the totem pole of human rights.

I don’t know, but can we talk about Thomas Bernhard? Everything in this post reminds me of Thomas Bernhard.

Also, this post is bat**** insane, and I just generally like the phrase “high on the totem pole of human rights.”

Scratch that, let’s talk about Ronald Reagan.

Is there either a question or a statement here anywhere, or are we just misreading an entire national cinema in one fell swoop ?

Pointless generalizing thread. Ever heard of the Berlin School films? Broaden your horizon, Maud’s Son.

Lilja 4-Ever, one of my Top Ten films of the aughts, was directed by Lukas Moodysson, a Swede.

Other than that, I’m having a hard time understanding your post. You don’t like the way Vienna or Austria is represented in many films, is that it? I think you’ve missed the point in several of the few you’ve listed, half of which are Haneke films – and I’m certain there are others out there that paint Austria in a good light. Although the only Austrian film I can think of right now is Free Radicals.

Well sonny you are actually saying that most other directors are a punch of pussies who don’t have the balls to show what’s going on in everyday life.
