So long as it’s not another slap in the face to the late Philip K. Dick, I think it could be interesting.
Not that the original “Blade Runner” was, but the many film adaptations of Dick’s work have been pretty well summed up as an equivalent to toilet paper, aside from a couple films. Would still like to see Cronenberg make an adaptation of a Dick novel, and I even think Paul Schrader could pull one off from one of his more spiritually based novels.
I don’t think it’s a good idea to have a sequel or even a prequel. The latter would destroy the wonder of the original, the former would likely spoil the ambiguity of the ending (at least, the ending as portrayed by the subsequent cuts) for the sake of providing more…and then, who, exactly, begged for more Blade Runner? Where would they go afterwards?
I agree Nate B.
Scott was talking about developing a mini-series of “The Man in the High Castle” for the BBC and between that and this I think he should stick with that.
Given the current state of Scott’s filmmaking, all I can say is: nooooooooooooooo!
Who knows? Maybe returning to his greatest achievement will breath new life into his cinema.
“Who knows? Maybe returning to his greatest achievement will breath new life into his cinema.”
Didn’t they say the same thing about George Lucas? ;)
Well, I find it really hard to believe Sean Young and Harrison Ford will team up again for a sequel, so…

Dick.
That’s just pathetic.
He could have at least waited until 2019. Either way I wouldn’t have watched it.
@Apu… as times goes by, you know, but Ridley don’t.
It could be the unnecessary shadow on the original title.
I dont think is a good idea
Has any sequel/prequel/whatever made 20+ years after the fact ever worked?
Financial issues? This might explain why he’s also doing another Alien film right now. Given hist recent output, I’m not too enthusiastic.
You mean you didn’t like Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the Godfather III, and the Star Wars prequels, Brad?
I caught Gregory’s Two Girls recently (made twenty years after the original) and it was surprisingly good. I don’t mind the Color of Money either.
The only way this could work is if it took place in the same world but with totally different characters.
Also, if the style were not modernized.
A prequel or sequel with the same characters would not work at all, but there’s a lot more to be done with the idea of replicants.
@Brad S.
The only one off the top of my head was Color of Money from the Hustler…..
Well, I’ll be damned…I was going to propose that this BLADE RUNNER project is as likely to surface as the ALIEN reboot he spouted about last year. Then I learned that, lo and behold, he’s already actually shooting the ALIEN project.
I don’t really see how this could work without a stronger connection to Dick’s material either. Hurm…
“That’s just pathetic.”
Agreed!
“I find it really hard to believe Sean Young and Harrison Ford will team up again for a sequel”
I doubt that Sean Young will even be asked to reprise her role, she has quite a reputation of being a crazy witch and the days of her getting any leading female parts in films that actually hit the big screen are long gone.
Don’t rule out Ford returning if the money/script suits him.
Ford needs a hit. He would return as Han Solo if there were an offer.
Of course he would Den. He has nothing better to do.
I don’t really see how this could work without a stronger connection to Dick’s material either.
Yeah, I think a lot of the speculation will ultimately come to Dick.
“In no way do I speak for Ridley Scott,” one of the producers told the LA Times, “But if you’re asking me will this movie have anything to do with Harrison Ford, the answer is no. This is a total reinvention, and in my mind that means doing everything fresh, including casting.”
Thumbs way, way down. Leave Blade Runner alone! However, I would not protest if a VALIS trilogy project were in the works.
The Empire Never Ended
What ever happened to adaptation of Radio Free Albermuth?
If a new Blade Runner film is actually made, it’s going to bear no resemblance to the original other than the name.
Tony Scott is remaking The Wild Bunch.
Those Scott brothers, they’re a sneaky bunch!
RFA is finished and touring festivals with no luck at getting a distributor. Things don’t seem to look that great for it, but if enough people “save” it in their Netflix queues…who knows. The trailer I’ve watched looks distractingly low-budget, but enough reviews I’ve read describe it as having a high quality heart and soul.
HAL 9000
Just read it on Yahoo news. It’s either going to be a sequel or a prequel. I wonder if it is a good idea to make another film or not. I don’t really know myself. It might be good. It might not be. What do you guys think? I would be interested to hear what people think about this.
