Some very fine moments indeed. RIP.

Terrible news, she seemed to have a real handle on celebrity and on aging with humor and grace (one of my favorite people to follow on twitter).

I love National Velvet, and Sweet Bird of Youth and Cleopatra, but she was even wonderful (or the most wonderful part of) in The Flintstones and These Old Broads. A compelling talent and extremely beautiful

Some fine moments in her career. Loved her voice, her walk, and her face, which is to me the most strikingly beautiful in American cinema. RIP.

She’s not the best Cleopatra (Colbert is), Shelley Winters steals the show in A Place in the Sun but Taylor is alluring here:

She’s also amazing in Ivanhoe and Giant besides the obvious choice of Virginia Woolf.

Never thought she was a great actress, although she was certainly a great presence.

Glad Dmitris mentioned Giant. Really enjoyed that movie and she held her own with James Dean, and was better then Rock hudson, which isnt meant to suggest he was bad either.~

A real woman.

Sexy.
Bawdy.
Beautiful.
Smart.
Wickedly funny.
On the right occations, a searing actress.

One of those wonderful people who wouldn’t dream of apologizing for anything.
I’m sure Richard was waiting for her with the glasses chilled and a fresh pack of cigarettes ready.

A gorgeous woman, courageous activist, talented and underrated actress, sharply funny at times and the last real star of her era – a product of the studio system child star machine. I’ll miss her.

Suddenly, Last Summer and Virginia Wolf are my two favorites. The Only Game in Town was the last one I watched her in with Warren Beatty. It;s worth a look, not great, but worth a look. I do think her notoriety cut both ways, which was unfortunate.

I would be interested in a thread about Suddenly, Last Summer – opinions on that film are all over the map. Regardless, her performance was excellent.

She was once the most beautiful woman ever, hyperbole be damned.
