“Sometimes those who come from film school theoretical textbook criticism build shrines to certain directors and then ascribe (even if unwittingly) apocryphal stories to enhance the reputations of these directors. "
That may be true, but what i question is whether even true stories should have any effect on how i feel about a filmmaker’s work. I think not. Whether Herzog crawled through fire or Kurosawa challenged a producer to a duel or Coppola performed surgery on Martin Sheen the film is the film is the film.

What a truly silly thread. There is the idea, fact, myth. whatever you like to call it, that Bresson used mainly ‘non’ actors in the lead roles of his films. He did do this didn’t he? What does it matter what they did later? Whether they did a hundred more films, went on to become firemen and all liked to dive for buried treasure, it doesn’t change anything. I think I get what Blue K is trying to prove- about cloying pretentious elitists, blah , blah but this evidence he provides does not make any difference or back up this argument.
