From Aronofsky to Jose Padilha. Oh boy. Maybe they should get Verhoeven to do it

May this “project” get buried under MGM’s collapse.

PS-
Tropa De Elite made me puke. The new clean cut face of Latinamerican fascism- “We are not fascists! We may kill people without due process but we are not fascist! We are of the people”. The dark side of Lula’s success story.

I wish they let Verhoeven do that sequel he wanted to make years ago, that continues on directly from the original

I’m merely waiting how the Hollywood-Verhoeven fanboys will respond here. Is there a stamp of approval for this remake? I mean…we’ve already established that Tony Scott and Spike Lee are “visionaries” for remaking amazing films based on several responses in those related threads, so……

Is there any reason to get any more frothed up about this than the two lousy sequels, TV series, TV miniseries, two animated series, the various comic book series, the half dozen videogames, and the theme park ride . . . not to mention the plethora of rip-offs, from Tokusou Robo Janperson to Full Metal Yakuza?

Huh, I kinda like the idea of Robocop directed by Jose Padilha so I’ll give it a stamp of cautious wait-and-see (never did see Elite Squad so don’t know if it’s a fascist celebration of violence or a more subtle kind of simultaneous criticism of it – but that kind of sensibility could bring the remake close to Verhoeven’s vision). Will it be reset from dystopian Detroit to dystopian Brazilian favelas? Anyway, Robocop is a fine film (flaws and all) but it’s not a sacred cow. I can see it being reimagined in an interesting way.

Full Metal Yakuza was ok.

Oh, and I should have also mentioned the best-ever Shaq movie:

That “armor” looks like a WalMart product….

Don’t be ridiculous. Everyone knows the best-ever Shaq movie was Kazaam.

I have that one filed under “best-ever film directed by an actor who has played Starsky.”

Ari

But surely the Cable Guy is the best-ever film directed by an actor who has played Starsky.

Matt Parks

No, because the rules clearly state that, in order to be eligible in the “by an actor who has played Starsky” category, the film must have been made AFTER the actor played Starsky.

Or the exploitation renaming of WHO? (1973, starring Elliot Gould) into ROBOMAN for late 80s VHS releases.
