Roger Avary

Roger Avary is one of my favorite directors. He directed Killing Zoe and The Rules of attraction.

He has a film called Gitteratti which is a full movie based on the Victor montage in Rules of Attraction but is not keen on releasing it soon due to the explicit nature of the movie and the fact that Kip Purdue was in character throughout the European voyage.

I am dying to read any of his scripts? Would anyone know where I can download or find any?.

Sadly Avary is jail at the moment. He was a twitter but its locked. Does anyone follow him?

Apparently he “twittered” from jail and that got him into more trouble.

Also I recommend his commentary on Day of the Dead and his Criterion commentary for Hard Boiled. Ultra fascinating

I agree Killing Zoe is a nice movie, I am not a fan of rules tho.

I also wonder what he contributed to Pulp Fiction, I beat the best scenes (based on what QT has done since).

Welles wrote Citizen Kane with the help of mankiewicz who contributed the best scene in the film, among others.

Killing Zoe is a movie that has held up remarkably well given the circumstances. It was far ‘artier’ than most of the crime-thrillers released at that time, and felt more ‘European’ in style than any of Q.T’s films, and in hindsight had far less in common with Tarantino than many lazy critics desperate to make a comparison suggested. J.H.A’s performance was incredibly unhinged and completely unforgettable, right up there with the best of Oldman.

Can’t say i liked any of his other films though. Mr.Stitch was especially awful.

I’ll also say that Avary replied to almost every single one of my e-mails back in the late 90’s. He is a really nice guy. Shame about his recent problems.

Out of all the things he mentioned, the one that stood out the most was the problem he had with Artisan regarding the dvd commentary he recorded. Basically he didn’t agree to their terms or something, which allowed them to use fragments in any context they wished. I really wanted to hear it too.

I don’t give a shit what anyone else thinks about this but Rules of Attraction is one of the best American films of the 2000s. I don’t quite get the hate for that film.

Avary is a far more compelling filmmaker than QT. Killing Zoe is great. Mr. Stitch is an embarrassment. It’s sad that he’s in prison but he did kill someone while drunk driving (and only got a year for it for vehicular manslaughter – not knowing the exact circumstances of the case, that seems more than justified).

Rules of Attractions is one of the best american films of the 2000s decade.

I am glad someone else shares the love for that movie, Ari.

I have the french Killing Zoe DVD and he does a great commentary track on that

However there is one absent from his Rules of Attraction dvd
