San Francisco People to People Film Discussion

Anybody in San Francisco? Wanna hang out and discuss movies? Where do you hang?

I swear people in SF watch movies (while interneting).

Why would I wanna go to SF?

I live in Berkeley. ;)

But yeah.
Odd, no response.

Off hand, I’ve noticed a few “Hey guys, I’m from this place, anyone from this place want to hang out IRL?” threads on here, and they’ve rarely gotten responses. As much interaction I’ve had outside of the site with members of the site, this is a pretty poor place for IRL networking, at least so far. Either we’re just too spread out or too introverted or both.

@LINDEN- I often go to Berkeley for work and on the weekends. But the bridge toll burns a hole in my pocket.

@"Either we’re just too spread out or too introverted or both"

Yup, the latter I suspect. Few times in the past I gave a shout out for spare festival tickets in case anybody wants them, and got no response. It’s understandable though folks in SF/ Bay Area are quite the busy bunch. (Isn’t Mubi based in nearby Palo Alto?) Anyways I’m always out of town several times a week. Plus I don’t think anyone here can hang out with my posse ha-ha. Maybe sometime in the future.

“Either we’re just too spread out or too introverted or both”

I suspect the latter, too.
But that shouldn’t preclude talking about Bay Area events, either past or upcoming.
Which is why I responded and mentioned my town.

I rarely go to SF for movies, but I have sometimes.
I’m just provincial.

It could be funny for people to bring up inaccurate local color from “Bulitt” to “The Pincipal”.

“folks in SF/ Bay Area are quite the busy bunch.”

As I understand it, currently most expensive cost of living in the United States.

It’s a shame, though, that more people don’t get to connect here, especially considering the threads where some people complain about not having movie-going buddies in their towns.

Sure… Watch, pause, post. Watch, pause, post. Watch, pause, post…
I thought everybody did, don’t you?
Gaaaah! Can you imagine?
“Hi this is :Mindy!: twittering my moment-by-moment reactions to seeing Romero’s ‘Dawn of the Dead’ for the fifth time.”

“It’s a shame, though, that more people don’t get to connect here, especially considering the threads where some people complain about not having movie-going buddies in their towns.”

Friendship needs to be organic, and takes time.

Sure and I don’t reach out to people until I feel I have a better sense of who they are than a screenname and some argument we’re having over, inevitably, Batman movies. I have been here for three years, though, and there are users here that I’d quite like to meet up with. Right now just doing the Ergodic Cinema Project seems special for the voice chats we’ve had. A lot more personalized.

True story, I used to be very, very protective of my anonymity over the Internet, until I met one of my long time Internet friends in …. surprise! …. San Francisco. But from a filmmaker’s perspective, nowadays it’s better for me to be transparent, something I’m still finding a balance in. I still hide behind a screenname and don’t give specific details here because I kinda don’t want my occasional ‘YEAH, FUCK MICHAEL BAY!’ getting back to some producer I’m talking to or something (one could only hope I’d ever get to talk to a producer of that level, however………), but that just goes to show I shouldn’t be saying such things online at all. There’s a lot of people here I would honestly like to hang out with, and if I were in the San Francisco area I’d totally give a shout out.

I was up in SF end of June, saw Beyond the Black Rainbow at the Roxie, in the small, bad theatre. Had a nice talk with an SF State film instructor out at Fort Point

Either we’re just too spread out or too introverted or both.

Yep. But if anybody’s ever in Atlanta………..

EDIT: The whole reason I came into this thread was to see if you were getting better luck than I did 10 months ago.

Hahahaha. Funny no one is in San Francisco on MUBI. I must get off the internet and shout this from my work window downtown. I like watching films. Sometimes with others. I like meeting new people for coffee tea and maybe a drink depending on our chat. I just like getting out of my own little world and discovering new stuff. So DM me if you’re in SF. Also hit me @mariaajudice I try to keep up on film events in the city and sometimes Berkeley/OAK. But I mostly stay in the city.

Although I am often in LA, Chicago, and Brooklyn. If there is anyone there who would like to connect send me a DM.
