Wow.
Maybe we’ll get a print of the British cut soon too.
Doh! Rochester!
So the guy says there are three versions… A-This one B-The home video version and C-Unknow.
Which is funny because the version I saw in 1979 in Puerto Rico seemed different to the one I saw on VHS back in the early 80s. I believe it had more footage of Hallorans trip to the Overlook… Maybe the one shown in Latin America was different from the American/home video one? Anyone here seen a different version from the home video one?
PS
And I could swear the theatrical version of Full Metal Jacket I saw looked different from the VHS/DVD…
1) There’s the version that screened for the first week or few days with an additional few minutes of footage at the end…the one they’re screening at Rochester next month.
2) There’s the version that Kubrick put into wide release in the US after that initial opening, losing just that coda, as far as I know, and remaining in circulation in the US and Canada in theatrical prints and on home video.
3) And finally, there’s the version Kubrick released about a month later in the UK from which he cut about 25 minutes of footage (and which would also run a bit shorter anyways due to the 25 frame per second projection rate there) which has remained in circulation theatrically and on video in Europe to this day.
Outside of the US and Canada for version 2 and the UK for version 3, I don’t know what the breakdowns are for which regions of the world can legally distribute/screen one version or the other, but (and I know I’ve bring this point up repeatedly in the threads, but here goes again) I think it’s incredibly odd to have so much dispute over which aspect ratios are director approved when Kubrick never even declared which version of THE SHINING was his official, final cut. Some perfectionist!
Wait a minute! I thougt they only project the stuff SHOT at 25 FPS at 25 FPS… So they screen EVERYTHING at 25 FPS?
Disregard that frame rate stuff…I’m no authority on it. Anyways, dude cut out ton of stuff from the movie (including one of my favorite scenes with the pediatrician)…check it out!
