I disagree.
Though, they should expand their already existing t-shirt, poster and original art business.
Maybe.
More shirts and posters would be awesome. Not so much sound tracks.
i think they should colaborate with either IFC or TCM (i prefer the latter) and do some kind of Criterion TV thing—occasionally showing their films on cable channels with all the remastered perks, and even some special features after the film or something like that. that way, if you’re like me and can’t afford their movies and don’t know what to buy, you might be able to watch it on TV once in a while, y’dig?
As a business venture, I’m gonna guess that music isn’t going to be a great idea. I do like the television idea though.
I’m guessing the TV idea would cause them to go bankrupt. I know my Tivo would explode instead of my shelves exploding. It would be awesome though.
I think they should get into ‘classy’ porn in a big way. In the Realm of the Senses points the way. Criterion is missing a bet if they don’t explore this – or should I say expose this? What Efe C. was talking about here around April 1st on the studio blog: for them to expand into pin-up “pictures of sweaty Japanese actresses” – that sounded hot. I, for one, would definitely be adding to my ‘collection’ as the Criterion banner would give it all an air of respectability. We could add The Devil and Miss Jones to Criterion’s The Devil & Daniel Webster, for example. If you lined these up alphabetically (as I do), no one would be the wiser.
i don’t know
i kind of like the idea of a company solely committed to bringing art films into the public foray – nothing else
that’s just me though
Yeah, they need to milk the work their graphic artists do for their DVD artwork and start making t-shirts. I don’t want to buy a t-shirt with the Criterion “C” logo on it, but I would love to buy an awesome shirt of “Breathless” or “Le Samourai” or something like that.
I think they are doing fine as is.
i only think they should do more cult classics, that are hard to find/obscure, but aren’t necessarily that “great”
I would like to see them include a “digital copy” of their titles, bundled with the purchase of the actual disc(s). That way one can obtain a version compatible with a portable video device, such as an iPod Touch or iPhone. However, Criterion may not want “to go there,” regarding such digital copies.
I think that Criterion might feel like David Lynch on the idea of digital copies for the iphone
Is there really such a thing as “classy porn?” I think not. I would have a problem with it, but I suppose the acting in porn is only one or two steps below that in Armageddon so, it wouldn’t be that terrible.
It’s funny, CBAWCD, but I was just going to add Digital Copies to the thread of Things You’re Really Sick Of.
I get it… people want an MP4 copy of the film they just bought on dvd or blu-ray, but the addition of yet another disc is so cumbersome and awkwardly packaged, especially since I have no desire to actually utilize the feature. I also just hate the addition of the phrase “Digital Copy!” included on the already horribly designed covers most major studios churn out.
Open you Iphone floodgates everyone, criterion has invaded.
I think they should release stickers and put them inside the DVD’s.
Personally, I think digital copies are more or less useless, though I’d be willing to try one if it included the directors commentary, as the PQ wouldn’t be as important as just hearing the commentary.
yup. T-Shirts
Eggman
Personally, I’m thinking they should start releasing CDs and MP3 downloads of some great Movie scores. That’d be sweet.
