yeah maybe
Seed of Chucky is much more emotionally interesting
I quite dig Seed of Chucky as well. I thought Tilly was, once again, a revelation in comedy there. I just felt that while Seed is quite funny and clever in its own way – Bride is much more subdued in its presentation of its humor and references. For example, while Seed completely makes known its opening is a hybrid of Halloween_/_Black Christmas and Pinocchio elements, Bride has moments like a De Palma split screen moment when Tiffany (Tilly) realizes her heart is being shattered. Or the shot above which is totally devestating in its emotional capacity as it is morbidly disgusting and darkly funny.
But yes, Seed was shit loads of fun. Would love to hear more detailed thoughts on how it emotionally got to you – and more thoughts on what you thought of Bride. :)
BoC is hilarious, and yeah it’s definitely not for dummies/dullards.
I like the identity issues in Seed, Glen or Glenda and John Waters movies are also a source of inspiration
I will comment on Bride soon (need to rewatch, have not seen since theater)
Yeah, series creator Mancini did a good job with Seed. I liked Bride too. Apparently he is going to direct the 6th installment soon, which is going straight to dvd. no word on the remake of the original either
“The killer doll creator and franchise director Don Mancini will be at the helm of the sequel, and he’ll also write and produce the film as well. Shooting is slated to begin in September with Brad Dourif back as the voice of Chucky. This time the wild doll wreaks havoc on a family that has come together for a funeral. As the logline says: “In the wake of her mother’s passing, a young woman – in a wheelchair since birth – is forced to put up with her sister, brother-in-law, niece and their nanny as they say their goodbyes to mother. When people start turning up dead, the fearless Nica discovers the culprit might be a “strange doll” she was sent a couple of days earlier.”
Sounds pretty dark, and apparently there’s going to be an emphasis on making the series more scary rather than darkly comedic and silly. Moviehole points out that the sequel actually seems to disregard the sequels after Child’s Play 3 and seems to pick up where the 1991 sequel left off. "
I’m not sure I’m digging the sound of this? I don’t know, though, since I thought Seed was gonna suck and it surprised the hell out of me.
Sort of off-topic, but anybody else think Tilly in Soderbergh’s Erin Brockovich would have rocked it? Absent of push-up bras and with a lot more forceful pizzaz? I’d have been down.
oops, i think i meant Seed of Chucky. i always get them mixed up, but like them both. which is the semi meta one with john waters and tilly sleeping with the producer to get a gig, and was filmed in romania?
Seed is the one you’re speaking of. :)
Jennifer Tilly sure revived that movie series, reinvigorated it.
