So who's going to make essential lists of subversive and avant-garde films now that Grey Daisies is gone?

Seriously, I was going to watch all the unseen films in Film as a Subversive Art next year. This is a tragedy.

I’ll try. Just suggest some and I’ll start.

We can do it together, Dude! I’ll do Film as a Subversive Art and you can do Avant-Garde Cinema. Is that cool? We can revive the lists in Grey Daisies’ memory!

I programmed a year-long festival of about 500 avant-garde films in 1995. It traveled the nation. I’ll post the pdf of the program guide here in the event that anybody thinks knowledge has been irreparably lost by a drama queen deleting his account.

that would be cool jerry. i have grey’s subversive list btw. bee asked me not to post as she wants to try to convince him to return so i promised to wait. i’ll pm u the link joe

Thanks Ruby. Send me the PDF as well Jerry.

yes, please, could we wait a bit? maybe he will be back. and if he doesn’t want , i don’t agree with re-uploading his lists without his permission. “drama queen” was working on them for years, and made them damn great.

Ok, I’ll delete the list for now.

No, Joe- start the list. Avant-garde needs lots of love and I certainly have no special insight. I deleted an account here once, and unless things have changed, the lists are lost. I hope Grey Daisies didn’t realize this, or else he’s a bitch, because lots of people (myself included) used those lists. I’ll get my pdf up tomorrow. I have to physically scan the guide in and upload it.

it’s not just about making a list, it’s about making a GOOD list on avant-garde cinema. and i don’t think that can do anyone.

better to say whoever*, might be misunderstood

If he knowingly deleted the lists, Jerry, well that was both a damn fool thing to do and incredibly selfish. Please, Bee, send me a private message when you get final word from Daisies. I can assemble the Film as a Subversive Art list from the copy Ruby sent me, but the avant-garde list will require time and others’ input.

BTW, Jerry, I’m going to watch Daryl Duke’s Payday tonight. Heard of it through you and hoping it lives up to the hype of “the film that would have made Rip Torn a star”.

Maybe he didn’t think anyone would really care?? Lol.

Somnambulist should do avant-garde list and only him, imo. And every admirer or experimental cinema on Mubi is aware of that, i believe, it’s impossible to not notice his name if one actually watches avant-garde films Who’s adding experimental films on Mubi? He. Who watched thousands of them? He. I just really really hope he will be willing to do that. And i believe Grey had his reasons, and it’s not fair calling him selfish without knowing those reasons. And, yes, if i ever hear from him, i’ll let you know.

i would think he would be flattered that people want to preserve his lists (if he isn’t returning)

Gone?!? Eff!

Forum drama aside, has anybody tried retrieving the lists through a wayback engine like archive.org’s?

Just another option.

I deleted an account here once, and unless things have changed, the lists are lost.

Was that your Singing Mason account? ;)

here’s the link to grey’s list film as a subversive art

i’ve no idea how to do what polaris is suggesting or if such a thing is possible. riss??

and shouldn’t there be an option to preserve lists if one deletes their account. all forum posts are preserved

Bijoux Alexanderplatz

Yeah. I didn’t even know the lists disappeared. I’d rather my forum posts disappeared.

haha i know that feeling. i was reading some old threads yesterday and didn’t even recognize myself :P

If we can scurry up the url for the lists we need, we can use archive.org’s wayback machine. If it’s unaccessible (as in, none of ya guys bothered to friggin’ bookmark the damn things), then that makes it more complicated.

great work chatgard!

Oooooh great job! Does anybody know / care to explain how those wayback machines work? They kind of blow my mind.

i was reading some old threads yesterday and didn’t even recognize myself

Yeah I feel that way even when I’m reading posts from just a few months ago. My first year or so of posts are downright embarrassing.
