Spidarlings (2012)

What a moronic idea it was to travel with a camera, a Redhead light, a microphone, a bag full of clothes, 5 kilos of fake meat and a tripod on the London Underground. Ouff.
Other than that it has been another great day of shooting. Not only did we shoot all of our kitchen scenes, but I also had a chinchilla jumping on my feet and was exposed to Jamie Oliver’s penis.

This looks absolutely outrageous and I really like that.

That being said I’m very interested in seeing what happens.

A chinchilla? Nice. Glamour and excess is really exciting when done right. See what I’ve seen I can now look forward to saying I eagerly await a chinchilla cameo and all the excess that entails.

is your dog also in the flm Salem?

Haha, of course Cookie is going to be in the film! She’s also on set most of the time (apart from our shoots at the Phoenix) Despite all the chaos around her, she’s always very quiet and calm.

There was no way to really direct Mr Chin, so I just let him do his thing. When we went for the first take he ran away and tried to hide under Sophia, but we managed to get the scene after all and I think turned out quite funny.

I’m really looking forward to shooting with the tarantula… not sure how my actors feel about it. :)

Now if I could only work an alligator into the script… sigh oh well, maybe in my next film.

I had the honour today of shooting with wonderful Rusty Goffe playing the villainous Alfred, perhaps one his darkest roles so far.

“What excites me the most about Spidarlings is the tone. Writer/director Salem Kapsaski and composer Jeff Kristian seem to get how absurd the musical form is. It’s refreshing to see an original horror musical that’s meant to be laughed at. Too often, horror musical creators think their work has to be deadly serious to gain respect. The problem is that the best musicals (and horror films, really) are fantasy and spectacle. If you can’t laugh at what’s happening, even just to relax between tense moments, you have no chance to process the big picture. Spidarlings hopes to start screening in Britain this summer.”
