Lona, that was great! Funny stuff.
Jamie Foxx (say what you want, the guy is good for a chuckle!)
Zach Gal…. however you spell his last name?
Tim Heidecker (youtube some of his anti-comedy standup, its great)
Andy Kaufman (heavily influential on dudes like Galifinnnnn and Heidecker)
Chris Rock
Richard Pryor
EDDIE MURPHY!!
the “not funny at all” list…
Mencia
Dane Cook
Joe Rogan

also Rush Limbaugh, seriously.
Okay, I really can’t resist posting again. I can’t recommend highly enough for anyone to watch this Mike Birbiglia video. It is worth your 5 minutes.
Doug Stanhope. I’ve met the bastard. Good people.
oh shit totally forgot mike birbiglia haha
Two clips from Woody Allen’s ‘Standup Comic’ album to encourage you to get Woody Allen’s ‘Standup Comic’ album. Best comedy album ever.

And let’s all down a shot for The Aristocrats, the only documentary about why we laugh.
Lewis Black
Jim Gaffigan
Dave Chapelle
Chris Rock
Louis C.K.
I like their TV shows
Conan O’Brien
David Letterman
Bill Maher
Jon Stewart
Stephen Colbert
(Yes, I realise the above have much of their material writtem for them.)
I like them better as actors
Jerry Seinfeld
Larry David
Jim Norton
Ricky Gervais (only The Office)
I agree, Dane Cook really isn’t that funny. At least not as funny as he thinks he is.
I can’t believe I forgot Lewis Black! His albums are always good on a road trip.
We need more love here for Mitch Hedberg! Such a wonderful human being and a damn gifted standup. His funniness always cracks me up.
“My friend asked me if I wanted a frozen banana. I said ‘no’…but I would like a regular banana later…so…yeah…..”
I’d love to see BJ Novak onstage sometime.
I still remember seeing him years ago on Conan O’Brien, way before The Office or any of that —
“Battered women.”
(pause)
“Sounds delicious.”
I laughed so hard I cried, to the chagrin of women’s shelters worldwide.
(Speaking of misogyny, I also love the old Eddie Murphy stand-up tapes, even though “Eddie Murphy Raw” is probably the most virulent and near-psychotic attack against pretty much the entirety of women in the history of film.)
(Edit #2: David Cross.)
hahahaha – that’s what I love about Hedberg, you can actually remember and quote his jokes!
“They should call a cheese grater what it actually is, a sponge ruiner.”
Zach Galifianakis
Neil Hamburger
David Cross
Bill Hicks
Louis CK
Steven Wright
David Letterman
Andy Kaufman
Demitri Martin
Bob Odenkirk
Dennis Miller
Steve Coogan. His Paul & Pauline Calf routines are brilliant. And of course, the second greatest tv comic character ever…Alan Partridge!
Agreed, Fredo. I think it’s safe to say I probably throw some sort of Mitch reference into everyday conversation pretty frequently. Haha. It makes perfect nonsense.
I need to familiarize myself more with Do You Believe In Gosh? still though.
“I find that a ducks opinion of me is very much influenced over whether or not I have bread.”
@ Josh
I’ll drink to that.
Also, Sarah Silverman and Penn & Teller. Not exactly stand-up, but they’re funny on stage.
Lona – I was a little disappointed with “Gosh”. Still has some funny bits but not nearly as solid as the other two albums. But I’m still happy they released it – even if he’s dead, I’d like to hear any recordings of his work (even his work in progress).
Mitch Hedberg
Nick Swardson
Mitch Hedburg: “Every book is a kid’s book if the kid can read”
Woody Allen’s “The Moose”
Bob Newhart
Pryor, Carlin, Kaufman, Steve Martin, Woody Allen, Bill Hicks
Floating around on YouTube is Andy Kaufman’s apperance (as one of his characters) on The Dating Game, sometime in the late 70s. It is well worth looking up.

Flip Wilson
Gilbert Godfried
Mitch Hedburg
Zach Galifinakis
Norm Mcdonald
David Cross

Bo Burnham
George Carlin
Louis C.K.
Bill Burr
The posts so far have set up an all-male club of stand-ups, some of whom have worked in films (concert or otherwise) and others who haven’t (and probably shouldn’t).
What of Joan Rivers, Phyllis Diller, Roseanne Barr (not my favorite anymore), Louise Lampanelli, Rita Rudner, Ellen DeGeneres (in her early days), Sandra Bernhard (not to my taste), Margaret Cho (I haven’t laughed once at ANY of her “jokes”), Kathy Griffin, Whoopi Goldberg, & Lily Tomlin.
On the male side, a few omissions (I didn’t go back and check): Rodney Dangerfield (who also starred in films), Bob Hope (another BIG movie star. His comedy is dated today but back “in the day” he was an influence on Woody Allen), Professor Irwin Corey (his act in person was HILARIOUS, on TV it was toned down), Robin Williams (when he DID stand-up), Dennis Miller (before he went right-wing on us), Jackie Mason (in person, when he could curse in Yiddish), & Robert Klein (who is quite a good DRAMATIC actor).
Seinfeld!
Louis CK!
Jimmy Carr!
Ricky Gervais!
Mitch Hedberg!
Andy Kallstrom! (an up-and-comer in Vancouver!)
Lona
Mitch Hedberg, Mike Birbiglia, Eddie Izzard, and Rob Paravonian
