Stanley Kubrick is Gay...according to Bret Easton Ellis

No-Limb Joe

For the past two days, Bret Easton Ellis has been posting on Twitter continuously about how Stanley Kubrick might be gay. He’s even using his films as proof (A Clockwork Orange’s cock grabbing, “blow-job giving ghosts” in The Shining). Uh huh.

What do you think?

If that makes Kubrick gay, then what the fuck was Pasolini? Oh wait.

If he was, he was pretty set on not wanting people to to know about it and I’ve seen more convincing arguments that Paul McCartney is dead than the one’s cited from the films. You’d think Bret Easton Ellis would have better things to do with his time.

Brad, I can’t be bothered looking at the tweets, but it sounds pretty obvious that he’s trolling. That’s actually a pretty awesome way to kill time!

hmm. Just woke up, so he got me.

Seeing as many Kubrick fanboys are uber-masculine homophobes, I applaud Mr. Ellis for his trolling.

Completely unfair comment in many ways Joe.

If you’re going to argue a historical figure is gay, you should argue from his personal life, not by stretched interpretations of subtle clues from his films.

Citizen Kane doesn’t pay attention to the women he’s married to, Orson Welles must be gay! And Rear Window, a movie about a woman who’s trying to keep a man from living out his dreams, and ends up trapping him in his apartment by getting his legs broken? Hitchcock is gay too!

Since when did people use stretched interpretations of subtle clues from Kubrick films?

Now that I think of it, the monolith in 2001 looks like a huge black cock. He must be gay.

Probably a similar vein to the folks featured in this film

Conspiracies abound…

Since when did people use stretched interpretations of subtle clues from Kubrick films?

LOLOLOLOL!!

Bret Easton WHO? Isn’t he that cut-rate Jay McInerney?

blah…who give a frog’s fat ass if Kubrick or anyone was/is gay…what a strange & stupid thing to tweet about. There’s nothing subtle about the ghosts in flagrante delicto in THE SHINING…so he’s hardly hiding anything.

jeez…I sound like Truman Capote writing this…I’ll stop

I’m pretty sure Joe was just trying to top this Bret guy in idiotic trolling.

it’s Bret Easton Ellis, who gives a fuck about what he thinks or says

Matt Parks

To droll to simply point out that Ellis is a writer of fiction?

I too am a Kubrick fanboy. I give Bret Easton Ellis all the credence he deserves, which is to say, less than nothing.

less than zero?

Thease Kubrick conspiracies are really something theres one that said he filmed the moon landing and was later killed for it or something along those lines. Idk what’s wrong with people the appealing thing about stuff like The Da Vinci Code is that it happened hundreds of years ago all this Kubrick stuff we know is crap

LoverofLeCinema

I don’t care what his sexuality was, he’s still my favorite director of all time.

I don’t see how The Shining or A Clockwork Orange could make anyone think that….

Unless people are projecting. Being gay is nothing compared to some of the other madness about Kunrick out there on the crazy ass internet

this discussion/argument is pointless. there are many threads of homosexual/homosocial relationships/over/undertones in most of Kubrick’s films. Barry Lyndon, Eyes Wide Shut, A Clockwork Orange, Spartacus… whether Kubrick was “gay” or not, who cares! Obviously he was gay enough to explore that side of the male psyche with enough subtlety… whether or not he had gay lovers or something… I have no idea. He probably kept that secret. All I know is he had a wife— a woman he met in 1956. They may have had some kind of weird open-minded relationship where she knew he was gay, but I kinda doubt it. Other great directors- Fincher, Cronenberg, etc. Are straight men who are, for argument’s sake.. a little gay. But to just sit around talking about whether Kubrick was “gay” or not is a little disrespectful. The guy died with a lot of great films under his belt and this is what we’re reducing him to? And hey Judicial Joe- I’m a Kubrick fanboy and proud hahahahahaha…
