Stanley Kubrick's Boxes

John Ronsen, the author of the book The Men Who Stare at Goats, recently made a TV documentary about Stanley Kubrick. Ronsen discovered a large number of boxes that contained all of Stanley Kubrick’s notes on every one of his films in obsessive detail.

Anyone see it?

Yes. It played on Sundance or Ovation. It was very interesting. The funniest part was the details about how he had specially made boxes that held a certain amount of papers and felt “right” when he held them. He created the perfect box. His perfectionism knew no bounds.

This isn’t really about men who stare at goats!! You had me all excited for a moment, I thought he had come back from the dead to direct that movie. Movie still looks good.

Too bad he approached the depiction of people as if people were boxes too.

“Too bad he approached the depiction of people as if people were boxes too.”

Yep, perfectionism is overrated.

I saw this spoof of Kubrick directing in a video online. I can’t remember where or what it was, but it had this guy with a noticeably fake beard who kept redoing scenes over and over, oftentimes for ridiculous reasons. It was quite humorous.
