STOP THE LISTS!

You just need to type a lot Rumple. You need to know your way around a keyboard.

Rich Uncle Skeleton

Rumple, you’ll just learn eventually if you try to look at the screen instead of the keyboard when typing every now and then.

It’s getting harder and harder to try to come up with new thread ideas :o(
By the way I think Citizen Kane is tremendous. I don’t mind it being the top of the heap in the polls. I get something new from it every time I see it.

Josh, The thing for me that makes Kane so great is exactly the opposite of what you just said. Sure it was revolutionary and its important, but what makes me love it so much is how timeless the story is. Its a great film due to its story, writing, acting, etc. The Jazz Singer was revolutionary but no one cares about it now. That’s because from what I’ve heard it does not hold up as a movie. In my opinion Kane does.

I guess since I began my neo-cinephillia I’m just more into films like Stalker and Syndromes and a Century than a more traditional narrative like Kane. Probably having known the central spoiler for my entire life before I saw the film didn’t help.

Obviously its fine if it isn’t your thing. Just personally I think what separates it from the other revolutionary films is that it is a great movie in itself forgetting what it did for cinema (similar to 2001, different to The Jazz Singer).

I need a great recommendation for a film to show to someone who is just being introduced to the art of cinema.

Drew.

S, Yes I do. The one that has fallen farthest is The Grand Illusion. I mean I still like it, but I’m not crazy about it (it found its way onto that list, because I made the list the day after watching it).

Sekzee, No not completely different. The order has greatly changed, but some have really held up. Four of my current top 10 are in that list’s top ten.

Black Irish

Drew: It’s a bitch to try and keep your faves organized, isn’t it? ;)

Thanks, now I’ve got an itch to see Grand Illusion again. :P

Not an option JR.

Black Irish

Crobley: Well, anything in particular?

English-language, subtitled, black & white, color, drama, comedy,…….? :\

Drew.

S, Really? Me saying that its faded over time has gotten you excited about it? :)

I think its pretty cool how many films remain on my top 38, and how many new films there are. I wonder in another year which films will remain and which ones will be new.

Robley

Just nothing too tough for a newbie to handle. ;)

And 71 Frags isn’t an option because it will be tonight, and though I have a wide range of choices, 71 Frags isn’t one of them. And now that I think of it, probably shouldn’t show him anything too depressing.
