STOP THE LISTS!

S., oh there is plenty of orchestral music. There’s music going on through most of the film.

Burchett: Hmm, then I’ll have to wait and see then. You don’t really hear many people talking about anything other than Mann’s songs though. :\

Fandorin-san

Blue: How is it, compared to the other Bergmans (haven’t seen it yet)?

Robley

Well cmon then, tell me what to do, or else I’ll just have to go back to my old plan.

McBean

S. - what’s your favourite score?

Black Irish

Rumplesink: I don’t have many favorite scores, to be honest, but among them I’d probably have to say Vertigo and There Will Be Blood at least.

I think I’m starting to prefer the use of pre-existing songs and music though.

Which ones do you like?

Rich Uncle Skeleton

S., that’s because Mann’s songs are used incredibly effectively.

Coheed, oh there definitely is. But I’ve only seen one Kenneth Anger film. One Stan Brakhage film. I have so much to see. However if you do find some gems there do tell me and I’ll probably take a look :-)

well, as u’ve prolly heard, critics have panned it, but i personally think it’s actually pretty good. But one thing for sure is that it doesn’t feel like a typical bergman work at all. And that’s prolly why lots of people didn’t like it.

Robley – I told you what to do last night, but there are a couple of issues for you right now. The first being that you’ve joined half way through the featured torrent period, so you won’t be uploading as much as if you’d caught it right at the start. Also you may be having connection issues – I don’t know. If there’s a bunch of stuff you want and you think it’s worth it just go mad and get everything you can. But if there’s more stuff you’re looking for you have to take the long view; be frugal and patient. Sorry I can’t help you more than that and I know it’s not what you want to hear :(

Coheed 2.5

Burchett: I’ve yet to watch them, but I did notice there are a couple of short works by Sergei Parajanov in there.

McBean

S. - My favourite of all time is the Philip Glass score for Mishima. I feel a list coming on, now that I think of it.

Rich Uncle Skeleton

Coheed, really? Okay, I’m definitely watching those :D

Sergei Parajanov – http://www.ubu.com/film/parajanov.html

So you don’t have to trawl through all the names on that list.

Black Irish

Rumplesink: I heard a part of that score, I liked it alot.

Rich Uncle Skeleton

Coheed, I’ve seen Kiev Frescoes by Parajanov before (the BFI showed it before The Colour of Pomegranates) and can recommend you check it out. It is very different from other Parajanov stuff if you’re wondering but I really liked it.

McBean

You hear it a lot elsewhere…the piece with the transcendant crescendo at the end of The Truman Show is lifted from Mishima. If I remember right they used it in an advert for diamonds or something aswell.

Fandorin-san

Blue: Yeah that’s what I heard/thought. I’ll watch it eventually…

Josh: See 8 1/2 please. It’s got classical music and a great score. It’s like paradise… ;)

Robley

I’ve seen all of his shorts on Ubu and I really love them. They’re no Color of Pomegranates, but they’re still really great shorts.

Bean: Well will I make it past this week if I just don’t download anything else? Or is there something I can do right now to bring my ratio up? Or will I be fine if I just wait until the next featured?

McBean

It’s a constant problem for me too Robley…the only really effective way to boost your ratio is to upload stuff. But the biggest problem with KG is having stuff to upload that’s not already there. Shortly after I joined I uploaded an old Frank Sinatra film called The Joker Is Wild which is very rare – that helped a lot, but I haven’t got anything else that’s not there, so I don’t download much…I bide my time until there’s something I’m desperate for and make do with that. I’m like a little sparrow…lol

Rumplesink: I vaguely remember that part, I haven’t seen the end to Truman in awhile.

Fandorin: I actually have to see that for Drew, it’ll probably be sometime soon.

Plus, it also deals with writer’s block. ;)

Aside: This talk about Serpent’s Egg is inspiring me to make a list of films I want to see of ‘foreign’ [or American] directors working outside of their own country. I’d love it if anyone could suggest some films, though I’ve already started coming up with some.

However, I wouldn’t want too many films directors who made the majority of their films in a different country other than maybe one or two made there [like Lang, Lubitsch, etc.].

8½ has a great theme. Has anyone seen ( and or own) the Blu-Ray version?

Fandorin-san

Josh S:

“Wanted” with Angelina Jolie is a fine example ;)

I’m trying to think of some…

Fandorin: Do you think it would help if I’ve posted some of the one’s I’ve gotten so far? :o

Fandorin-san

God, Space Oddity is such a faaaantastic song…

Space Oddity is indeed a great song. Is it your favorite song by Bowie Fandorin?

Black Irish

Drew: Why are you happy, if I might ask? ;)

Robley

Rumple: I have a dilemma and a question.

Dilemma: I checked my entire archive to see if there was anything I could upload, and I didn’t find anything. However, there are no files titled ‘Ashik Kerib’ in the database, they are all under Ashug-Karibi, the original title. Can I upload mine under Ashik Kerib and get it towards my ratio?

Question: With my current 0.4 ratio, can I just wait for the next featured and be fine?

EDIT: Extra question: Can I upload music? Because I found a good amount of stuff not on there.
