Oh come on, don’t be such a stiffy!
Four unseen Tourneurs began streaming on Netflix today. I found my Valentine date!
Your date is a movie?
Sexy, isn’t it?
Aw….

It could be worse: a date with another World Cup peasant film.
My date was a short film about poverty in Korea!
There was absolutely nothing sexy about that.
Jerry, don’t worry too much if you can’t get to Timbuktu, not Tourneur at his best, though I guess since you’re obviously a big fan like me, you’ll still find it interesting anyway as it is such an odd duck. Some of the worst insert/process shots I’ve seen in a long while, don’t know how they came about. The Fearmakers starts off strongly, so I’m excited to see the rest of it. Comedy of Terrors isn’t anything too special, but it’s worth seeing since it is out of Tourneur’s comfort zone and wasn’t the best of concepts, but as long as you don’t go in expecting too much it might prove worthwhile. Wichita, however, is another thing entirely. It’s great, and given your regard for Stranger on Horseback, you should love it as it can be seen as something of a companion piece, heck, McCrea even wears the exact same outfit in both movies. I preferred it to Stranger when I first saw it, but it’s been too long to know if that would still be the case, which tells me I should rewatch it as well.
^^ Or a surly Lubbickian.
Too bad Greg ain’t a woman- I’d take him out to the barn and make all sorts of promises to him. I’ll definitely start with Witchita.
And I’m not a Lubbickian- Scurry County’s not in the Mubi database.
How about a surly Scurrier? :) I like that.
No dates for me, just a bunch of music quickies.
[And that reminds me, still need to see more of Tourneur.]

Nice — like the kind you can’t keep? ;)
Apparently a good (wo)man is hard to find.

Ha! Added to profile.

I tried to make him popular but Flamed and Arrowed out of the Director’s Cup.

And promises should never be made.

haha sorry, couldn’t resist. greg looks damned cute here, jerry. u could do worse ^
u guys seen anne of the indies? i’ve always wanted to see that one. i don’t suppose it’s one of the lost tourneurs on netflix??
I’ve seen naught but three, unfortunately.
Jerry doesn’t look half bad himself either, Ruby. But in his current profile pic he looks pretty doubtful.
Anne of the Indies starts off kinda slow, but it really picks up as it goes and it has some great scenes that make it worth watching. It does show the difference in style or ability between Tourneur and someone like Raoul Walsh well as the sorts of scenes Walsh would excel at, big crowds and action stuff, Tourneur isn’t as interested in, but the more individual emotional components he finds some really strong visual correlations for adding a sort of depth or tension to scenes which could have been flat or routine in the hands of another director. Tourneur really shines when it comes to the psycho/sexual stuff. It ain’t a great film, worse than say Experiment Perilous, Berlin Express, and Easy Living which Netflix doesn’t have yet, but it is still good and definitely worth seeing for the Tourneur fan, even with the less than stellar acting from some cast members, which sometimes came with the people Tourneur had to work with.
(And by the by, I’m going to tactfully pretend I didn’t see some of the other posts above as I wouldn’t know how to begin to respond…)
Has anyone seen Tourneur’s Circle of Danger? I’m interested in seeing this one. The only place I can find it is for sale on Amazon for about nine bucks.
Sadly, I haven’t seen that one yet, I didn’t even know it was available. I’ll have to check it out. I’m sure it’d be worth nine bucks though if it’s anything like a remotely decent copy as it was made during a fertile time for him.
Greg — Leave it to Ruby and I to stir trouble up even more on STL… ;)
Ben.
Oh God puns…………
Freud once said that they were the lowest possible form of comedy. I agree.
Now Alcoholidays was funny to him. Because one often drinks more on holidays! Therefore we combine the words and it becomes witty.
