First off, Lars Von Trier’s movies have always been as intellectually stimulating as pornography, but though that sounds like I’m making a joke the thing is I’ve been tired of his “AND THIS IS HOW DEEP I’LL PENETRATE YOU THIS MOVIE!” schtick for a very, very long time. Us here talking about it? That’s all he’s trying to do. He’s succeeding because we’re doing it.

Secondly, Charlotte Gainsbourg has done things resoundingly more creepy than porn. Behold:

Otherwise, I did say during Experiments in Cinema 7.9 that “any truly advanced experimental film is indistinguishable from porn”, only half-jokingly, so maybe Lars Von Trier truly is pushing the envelope by making arthouse film the pornography it aspires to be. But I’m still half joking and the serious half isn’t serious enough to watch his movies.

Yes, Dude, Odi has been struggling with health problems lately. If you don’t know, she has diabetes and sometimes it gets the better of her. She and I are working on the Ergodic Cinema Project together so when diabetes takes her down, she informs me.

I’m actually supposed to say something in the ECP thread but I’ve been spending the last two days regaining my feet from Experiments in Cinema 7.9. Tomorrow I have quite a bit to catch up with with my various projects and I’ll work it out, but I first have to look into a funding opportunity that may have fallen across our lap.

I just don’t think Nymphomaniac will meet my expectations – Given what he’s said about it, I’m expecting it to be pretty fucking nasty. Like, it should make In the Realm of the Senses look like I Love Lucy.

Also, I feel annoyed that Hitchcock didn’t even bother to find out the actor’s name. And he just kind of assumes that Truffaut will just fall over himself to get the actor’s autograph. What a self-important prick!
