Amazingly brilliant. I’ll donate when I can.
I will donate once it becomes possible. So inspiring to read.
I am very excited about the project and cannot wait to see what comes of it.
You have my full support.
Thanks to those of you that have already become involved in this new film!
I’m bumping this up- and I do need to emphasize the importance of you all getting involved as quickly as possible:
Nina Menkes is currently in Tel Aviv, Israel for the next few weeks and we, as a group, have decided it would be fantastic if she shot her film in Israel. To do this we need to move quickly on getting her equipment. So before we open up our Kickstarter and Indiegogo pages officially we’re going to simply allow MUBI members and Facebook friends to jump on board immediately and donate through Paypal to, for all intents and purposes, produce Nina Menkes’ newest short film. We will also cut the cost of the incentive lists in half until we officially open our Kickstarter, etc. pages, so the first threshold is now actually only set at $5.00 – $20.00 USD and on down the list respectively. You will still receive all the incentives detailed in each donation level, but for only half of the prices which are listed above.
Also here is something I put together called the “Subvex Starter Pack” which has some trailers and short films by some of us (this will be added to in the near future):
A sincere ‘Thank You’ to those of you who have become producer’s of Nina Menkes’ newest film so far – we appreciate your support.
Cool. I’m teaching video to high schoolers with learning disabilities and plan to use something analogous to the exquisite corpse drawings but on video…cool to see that others are doing it, and I’ll keep checking in on this project.
^^^That’s too cool, Ben.
To be honest, I hadn’t heard the expression “Exquisite Corpse” until this project.
I totally love this idea and I’ll chip in whatever remains of my budget when I’ve bought this falls course literature. Looking forward to see this progress. Best of luck.
PS. Is there any other way than PayPal when it comes to donating? DS.
@ Peter – there will be Indiegogo and Kickstarter project pages for this film very soon.
just added my two cents. can’t wait to see what Nina comes up with as well as hearing more about what you all are planning for the obstacles, etc.
Toby – Thank you! You are a gentleman and a scholar!
and BTW – it’s all about what you are planning for the obstacles!nicenice
UPDATE:
Thank you to all who have donated to this project so far. To keep the producers up to date I’d like to announce our newest addition to the project : Jonas Mekas
So, you are now not only a producer of Nina Menkes’ newest short film, but also Mr. Jonas Mekas one of the all time greats- be very proud of yourselves ;)
And again, Thank you!
Remember, children, this is Jonas Motherfuckin’ Mekas we are talking about here. for those of you who have seen As I Was Moving Ahead, Occasionally I Saw Brief Glimpses of Beauty realize that was easily one of the best American films of the last decade. You have an opportunity to support truly independent cinema. This isn’t Juno type of independent film, kids. SUBVEX is about genuine subterranean vexation. We’re about subverting the self-indulgent blasé world of cinema with truly personal visions.
And Nina Menkes is on board as well. And those of you familiar with her work already know that she may be just about the best narrative American filmmaker around. I urge all of you to check out her superb films like The Great Sadness of Zohara and The Bloody Child. The latter film, in my opinion, is just about one of the most insightful and incisive cinematic examinations of ingrained violence in the American collective unconscious.
Support personal cinema! Support unwavering artistic integrity!
Yeah man- preach it Blue!
Do donations go into a general fund or are you looking for sponsors for individual film makers?
General project fund
I’m a bit confused about how the producing of the Mekas film works.
It is a collaborative project Jimmy.
Gotcha. So, by donating we would be benefiting both projects, or do I have this completely mixed up?
Jimmy, please refer to the Garage Production Note which explains the project in detail to see how the funding works if you still have any questions.
Thanks guys.
I’m confused. It’s one project including films stitched together exquisite corpse style by different filmmakers.
Jonas Mekas, Nina, T, JDD and the rest of us are doing the Exquisite Corpse project.
Okay, that makes sense. Thank you Jesse.
You bet Jimmy.
This sounds very intriguing. I’d like to donate some money for you, but I’m not sure how much yet. Does this have a deadline for submissions of donations?
Nix my question. I’m on board. I’ll be glad to donate what bit I can.
This is truly a great day. Sorry for not posting until just now… my internet’s been out for the past 9 hours.
Woo hoo!!
Me(nke/ka)s!
Jonas Mekas — The director of so many films I want to see, but can’t seem to get my hands on.
Nina Menkes — The beautiful director of some of my favorite films, as well as the director of two films I want to see SO desperately bad (Phantom Love and Dissolution).

This thread is to discuss the first Subvex collaborative project, which we are tentatively calling the Subvexquisite Corpse Experiment:
Subvex Presents: The Exquisite Corpse Collaborative 8mm Film Experiment
Those of us over at Subvex have decided to give all of you over here at MUBI the first crack at becoming involved.
We welcome any and all questions about the project, if you have something to ask or are curious about any aspects of this project, here is the place to get to us.
