Existential Science Fiction would definitely fit; with Solaris (I’m sure this will be in the library soon), Alphaville, Brazil, Blade Runner, La Jetee, etc. It would also be great to see a section on regions of the world often neglected in film: Eastern Europe, Africa, and the Middle East; the only one of these I can think of in the library right now is Little Terrorist. Sorry about the lack of links, but I will never understand how to do that, I’m like a senile old man when it comes to the internet.
How about “picaresque” as a section? This is a classic genre which includes some coming-of-age and science fiction works but I think it would be interesting in an interdisciplinary kind of way.
Waking LIfe (2001) directed by Richard Linklater will fall under this category. Of course, it could fall under “dreamscapes” too… but I’m not sure.
There’s a nice section here at BAFICI that they call Cinema of the Future.
They program films from first timers from around the world.
The other day I saw one of the films called “HIGURASHI” by HIROSUE Hiromasa
It is a beautiful japanese film that got an award at the past berlinale.
I would also like to see something like ART & FILM
we can show films like
- Destricted
- Matthew Barney’s Creamaster Cycles
- Daft Punk’s Electroma
- Zidane, un portrait du 21e siecle – by Douglas Gordon
- Who get’s to call it art? by Peter Rosen
- The Gabriel Orozco docu The Auteurs already has.
and this.

I definitely agree with Akira Kar-Wai lets get more film from Peru, Chile, Colombia, Argentina or all the other country in Latin America besides Brazil and Mexico, joder, there’s so much. It would be wrong to label them by country though wouldn’t it? Since there’s so many movements within each nation within each culture within each frame of mind and all that.
I’ll look ‘em up and get back on that. A category I’d suggest though is Music Video (lets face it some of these guys are the pioneering filmmakers with their little short masterpieces; get some Floria Sigismondi or Patrick Daughters or Jonathan Glazer or Cunningham).
Another good one is Cinema of the Future or Controversial Cinema or The Truth 24 fps.
Fascinating. I like this idea.
Yeah! Sections! We have to contact this Efe Çakarel.
Dan, I think he’ll take your suggestions for changing the forum under advisement if you ask.
Well, i’m all for innovation, as long as all is covered and perhaps there should be off (non-cinema) topic separately then my galleries won’t clog up the front board. Japan deserves its own section (New Asian isn’t enough especially if classics is understood mainly as classic Hollywood and anglophone). In fact Mizoguchi deserves his own section. Perhaps Silents section too. Perhaps continents separately, or decades, or a section for directors, a section for specific films. But i like the idea of something completley different too- just as long as it’s navigable, and doesn’t get clogged up like the M25 on bank holiday rush hour while some flounder in vain search for the right destination.
This looks like a major step in the right direction for theauteurs.
Just contacted him.
This thread actually refers to an area on The Auteurs that has now morphed into our Cinemas.
can we have a section called “the auteurs” :O)
efe
Friends;
We are fascinated by the great discussion taking place here and wanted to ask you to suggest Section names for The Auteurs. The idea is to innovate on the traditional way we navigate cinema (based on genres like comedy, drama, etc.) and make it more exciting to DISCOVER great cinema.
The sections we currently have (conceived by, you guessed it, dkaz):
Please suggest some section names and films from our library that belong to that list. Use textile to create a link to the films so anyone can read about those films you suggest. Learn how to create a link here.
Thank you!!
