Terrence Malick's "Tree of Life"

Wait! What!

“i worked on this film as an intern. and no i will not tell you about it. and yes… malick is a genuinely nice man.”

That’s it. Scooter has officially had a much more badass and in-depth career in cinema than me. She should be writing 30MFS! “Part V: Malick is a Nice Guy… and I cannot tell you about it yet”

“Could Tree of Life be the cinephile’s Duke Nukem Forever?”
Brilliant! I think that’s the only time anyone is every going to mention them in the same sentence again :D

I am, quite literally, laughing out loud.

‘Tree Of Life’ is a pretty worrying title. i know that’s an incredibly superficial observation to make, but i’m getting a little tired of Malick’s nature documentary style films and found The New World to be rather dull overall. I hope this isn’t more of the same.

I’m not sure who this Joks fellow is, but, I must say:

To say one is ‘getting a little tired of Malick’s nature documentary style’ is a real folly.
First off, the man has only made 4, now 5, films in 40+ years, so to say one is ‘getting a little tired of it’ is absurd.

NATURE IS WHAT MAKES IT A MALICK FILM

Aside from certain visual motifs, along with internal, ambiguous narration, love of Americana, etc,
the aspect of being in-touch with nature is to a great extent what makes Malick an easily defined ‘auteur’.

When I heard the title of his next film I was rapturous; when I heard the ‘voyage of time’ synopsis i was so ecstatic for a visual feast i could hardly fathom seeing it outside of my own imagination.

For me, The New World gets more hypnotic & beautiful with each viewing.

I eagerly await the Tree of Life & its minotaur.

Trailer is finally up in Quicktime.

And a poster.

=

It’s been awhile since I’ve anticipated a film this much. Easily the trailer of the year and in turn, decade. Nobody does it like Malick.

Some of you guys really need to stop your foolishness, that trailer is great. Now go back to trying to find a way to mount a David Fincher movie.

Just heard – from entirely reliable sources – that this film opens in the UK and Ireland (yay!) on May 04…

Yeah, it will open on 4th May in the UK. As soon as tickets are available, I’m there.

And has anyone realised that almost every still on that poster is in the trailer?

There’s also a dinosaur in the poster…see it?

I like Malick. Very much, naturally. But I have a perhaps unfortunate contrarian reaction to hype and over-hype, and I must say that with the cult following, nigh-universal admiration and mega-star power, I now find myself having a hard time being excited about this film. Of course I’ll see it – everybody will see it.

Anybody else have a similar knee-jerk reaction to hype?
