The Carradines (John, David, Robert and Keith).
The Gainsbourgs (Serge and Charlotte).
The Baldwins (Alec, Daniel, Stephen and William).
Coppolas (Jason, Sophia, Roman, Nicholas, Francis)
The Fondas, although Peter isn’t a favorite.
Melvin and Mario Van Peebles
Alfred Newman (“The Prisoner of Zenda”, “Gunga Din”, “All About Eve”, many others) and his family have left an incredible legacy in film music:
“Lionel Newman scored three dozen films and several TV series, adapting and conducting scores for hundreds of other films.
Emil Newman scored over 50 films.
David Newman has scored over 85 films.
Thomas Newman has scored over 75 films.
Randy Newman added memorable film work to his musical career.
Joey Newman has scored many TV series, films, and video games.”
Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson
Janet Leigh and Jennifer Jason Leigh
Least favorite:
Ryan and Tatum O’Neal
The Rossellinis: Casablanca, Notorious, Autumn Sonata, Voyage to Italy, Rome Open City and Blue Velvet between them all. Exceptional and diverse. Although has anyone seen Isabella Rossellini’s Green Porno things? I wonder what David Lynch thinks of them.
Also, shouldn’t it be Janet Leigh and Jamie Lee Curtis in place of Jennifer Jason Leigh? I don’t think Leigh is her real name.
The Bridges: Lloyd, Jeff and Beau
Also the Argento’s, especially Asia
Jennifer Jason Leigh is Vic Morrow’s daughter. Barbara Turner is her mother.
says who? You? bahhhh
I think the Huston’s are a good example (I’m particularly glad to see Danny Huston finally get some recognition).
Now that Moon has been released, I’ll give props to David Bowie and his son Duncan Jones.
It never seems that the second generation is better than the first unfortunately.
Jennifer Jason Leigh is better than Vic Morrow.
Christopher Langford
From one generation to the next we occassionaly get artists who successfully continue their family’s profession. Whether director/actor combos like John Houston and his daughter Angelica, the father/son combo of Kirk Douglas and Michael, or dynasties like the Barrymores or Fondas – what are some of your favorite cinema families?
I know this isn’t the deepest topic for discussion – but after viewing the threads initiated by the likes of names I don’t care to mention – this will help further bury them.
