Fantastic stuff, Adam. I for one will be submitting my list in late Feb while I try to catch up with all the great cinema I have missed this decade to no avail.
I think I’ll be doing the same.
I´m glad to see there’s still some time left to catch up on a couple of titles, hopefully I will be able to watch “The White Ribbon” in theatre in the meantime.
There’s lots I still ‘need’ to see too, but even as it stands I’d find it near impossible to do a top 10. There’s easily around 30-50 films that could comfortably be in a top 10. I might have to do something silly like no more than 1 or 2 from the same country.
i’ve been meaning to make a top ten for the decade, i’ll be doing it.
“I might have to do something silly like no more than 1 or 2 from the same country.”
not silly at all, and i’m also considering on counting in a personal rule of half males / females and no more than one film from a director’s filmography!
Half males, half females is ambitious, although there are probably 4 female directors from Iran alone that I could use. No more than one per director is very sensible for a top 10. I can’t think of anyone who would merit more than one anyway, even though there must be a few.
Awesome, Adam. I’m really looking forward to this.
Thanks to the Olympics here in Vancouver (although this is all I can thank them for), I have 16 days off school in February, which should give me ample time to cram in the last of my must-watch films of the decade. Should be fun.
Just a quick list of the films I need to see before making my list…
-Climates
-Dogville
-Gosford Park
-Hunger
-In Praise of Love
-Notre musique
-Regular Lovers
-Werckmeister Harmonies
And the 2000s films of Werner Herzog, Hou Hsiao-Hsien, and Hong Sang Soo.
Right now, I have shortlisted twenty films and plan on ranking them incessantly until late Feb.
@ Adam, thank you.
Now I’m gonna go compose a list that will shake things up a bit.
I look forward to it!
good one Mr.Cook, I am game for it…reminds me of the fun we had last year
I’m still working on mine!
It pleases me that Mulholland Dr. seems to be in the lead for #1!
As of this moment, Mulholland is trailing ever so slightly.
I’m going to try and squeeze some more re watches and watches in before that deadline. You can bet that The Twilight Samurai is definitely on my list.
I understand it would take forever to do but I really like the idea of setting this up like the World Cup with eliminations. 4 films, 2 are eliminated and so forth.
It’d be faster and easier as most people have already seen these movies as well, numerous times in some cases.
I figured out my top 100 of the decade at the end of last year, and, lordy, it took longer than I thought.
I’ll reformat the top 10 for this poll sometime between now and March 10, I hope.

Looking good Cook.
Not what I expected from this group, surprisingly.

So far the “Best of the Decade” list doesn’t differ from any random imdb list, hopefully more people will vote for lesser known quality works instead of the more popular but inferior films that currently make the list.
at least Pan made the list :) but yea im not feelin the auteur power on this one…
Marc, spice up the list with your knowledge!
Adam Cook
The decade has come to an end and it is time to see which films The Auteurs community considers to be the best of the last 10 years.
For those who participated in The Auteurs Poll of last year, the idea is similar this time around but the process will be a bit different (hopefully improved). There will be no sign-up process, any user on The Auteurs can submit their vote immediately by making a top ten using the convenient List feature. Title your list whatever you like, just make sure its creative, exciting and fun!
Only lists of 10 will count. How you rank your selections will not matter.
If a film you’re voting for is not on The Auteurs database, just type the following info inside the list description box: Title – Director – Year – Country
Once your list is complete, send me a PM with a link to your list, and I’ll tally it. No changes made to your list will be considered after this point, so, to avoid confusion, please don’t make any.
Voting will be open from now until March 1st, 2010.
If you have any questions, please voice them in this thread so others can benefit from the answers.
Have fun!
Note: There should be an official “Best of the Decade” page launched on The Auteurs within the next week or so. I’ll link to it in this thread once it is ready.
