The Auteurs' Fake Criterion Covers

I recently watched “Saved the green planet” (2003) and enjoyed it enormously. Would someone please make a nice cover for it?

Brandon Bedaw

I hope there are people around here who actually get this cover, and understand how unbelievably great such a release would be…

And remember, swords will fucking cut you wide open.

^ Funny as hell.

I can’t believe no one has done this classic film.

I like the one for Let the Right One In

I do believe that Jacob Swanson knew exactly what he was doing and that he knew Noah Bambauch didn’t actually direct the Will Ferrell soccer movie.

Case

Absolutely brilliant film.
Very memorable score by Ennio Morricone.
Interesting thematic parallels to The Conformist which was released the same year.
Won the Cannes Grand Prix 1970.
Won Foreign Movie Oscar 1970.
And yet: No official DVD release with English subtitles to be found anywhere in the world!

nice investigation cover. it is a perfect criterion movie!

Brandon Bedaw

Love that cover, Case, and truly a shame that it hasn’t been released with english subs at all.

I made this before seeing your Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion, so it’s a case of pure coincidence that they both contain a similar element…

The official cover for this film is an unfortunate case of uninspired design, especially when the theatrical poster is a simple and wonderful little bit of work, perfectly evoking the 1970’s gangster genre the film belongs to. The fingerprints are added… a visual nod to Eddie “Fingers” Coyle.

Very nice Brandon. I was going to do Eddie Coyle with that poster but I chose to do the Godfather one instead.

is there something up with that Elio Petri film? The rights or something? It seems REALLY odd that it’s so unvailable.

BTW…if it does get the Criterion treatment, I can’t imagine them NOT using Case’s cover

Absolutely love this thread. I’ve gotten so addicted to everyone’s fantastic ideas I felt compelled to throw a few in myself.

someone on another thread referred to Peckinpah as sentimental…I don’t agree…

that 2nd Thing is excellent

Jacob Swanson

“Jacob Swanson; Not sure if it was intentional or not, but you mixed both Kicking and Screaming movies. You have the date and the name Noah Baumbach but then you have the picture of the 2000’s Will Ferrell movie.”

Could that possibly be a mistake?

Here are a couple for one of the more disturbing movies I’ve seen. Damn, this one really stuck with me.

I love the Martyrs covers yet I could not possibly hate that film more than I already do.

I’m not surprised to hear someone hates Martyrs, but I’d love to hear your reasons.

I thought about putting the Batman title in there too but the bat symbol is so iconic I left it out.
