Jia began acting in the late 1980s, and is probably best remembered in the 2001 Chinese drama film, Quitting, a movie that chronicles his life and his story, in which he struggles to overcome drug and alcohol addiction. He also appeared in other Chinese films. He graduated from the Central Academy of Drama in Beijing in 1989, and soon gained fame in the late 1980s and early 1990s as an actor in films such as The Case of the Silver Snake and A Woman from North Shaanxi. While rehearsing for a stageplay titled Kiss of the Spider Woman (also directed by Zhang Yang) in the fall of 1992, Jia first became exposed to marijuana and eventually became addicted, while also experimenting occasionally with heroin. Then, in 1995, after filming Weekend Lovers, Jia quit acting completely and lived off his younger sister Wang Tong. He was also an avid fan of The Beatles. He listened to their music obsessively and began to fantasize himself as the son of the lead singer, John Lennon. In late 1995, his parents decided to move to Beijing in order to help their son quit drugs. Wang Tong also came back to live with her parents and brother in the same apartment. Several efforts made by his parents to penetrate their son’s inner world were met with indifference, sometimes even hostility. Over time, however, Jia began to open up. He started to take regular walks with his father, usually buying a bottle or two of beer along the way. Jia Fengsen also bought his son cassette tapes by The Beatles.
In early 1996, Jia relapsed after being off drugs for almost six months. On 19 March of that year, after drinking several bottles of beer for the celebration of his twenty-ninth birthday, Jia slapped his father, claiming it was to teach him the “meaning of life”. Jia’s family was upset by this and felt he needed to be taught a lesson. They contacted the police, and three officers arrived at their house the next day. Jia was taken into custody and sent to a mental institution. Upon arrival at the institution, after being placed on medication, his condition improved greatly. He also stopped fantasizing and started to see himself as just an ordinary human being. His doctor determined that Jia was not suffering from schizophrenia but recommended that he stay a little longer to sober completely. He was finally discharged on 19 March 1997, his thirtieth birthday.
On 5 July 2010, Jia jumped to death from Building 19, an apartment building at the Anyuan Beili Community in Chaoyang District in Beijing. He was found dead on the trunk of a car around 6:00pm. ––Wikipedia

Bio: Ata Demirer (born July 6, 1972 in Bursa, Turkey) is a Turkish filmmaker and stand-up comedian famous for a string of Turkish box-office hits including Berlin Kaplanı (2012), Eyyvah Eyvah 2 (2011), Eyyvah Eyvah (2010) as well as being one of the top 10 standup comedians in Turkey.
Demirer, who demonstrated a talent for music at an early age, studied at Bursa Boy’s High School before tranfering in his final year and graduating with honours from Çelebi Mehmet High School. After leaving school he found work, with the help of his brothers, as a night club pianist. In 1991, he moved to Istanbul after being accepted on a music course at the Turkish State Conservatory at Istanbul Technical University. During his studies he started performing stand-up in bars and befriended Gökhan Semiz of Turkish comedy troop Vitamin Group and sang on their single Turkish Cowboys. His first professional performances were organised with the assistance of E.Ş.EK Theatre Group founder Uğur Uludağ and while performing in musical theater with the group in Asos he was offered the lead role in the 1995 production of Funny Money (Komik Para) at the Dormen Theatre. That same year he also founded and toured with the Ege Kumpanya orchestral group as well as continuing to perform stand-up.
In 1998 he impressed the organisers at Leman Kültür with recordings of his earlier shows and they staged his show Tek Kişilik Dev Kadro which consisted mostly of impersonations of Turkish celebrities such as actor Kadir İnanır and singers Bülent Ersoy and Emrah. After more than 1000 performances the show transferred successfully to television with Star TV’s 42-episode run of Korsan TV (2001) written, produced and presented by Demirer. He subsequently joined the cast of Star TV’s Tatlı Hayat (2001-04), the Turkish version of US television sitcom The Jeffersons (1975–1985) and began his film career, alongside future Eyyvah Eyvah co-star Demet Akbağ, in the supporting cast of Where’s Firuze? (Neredesin Firuze?) and Vizontele Tuuba (both 2004). He greatest success came with a three-season run from 2004 to 2006 as the loveable Volkan in the popular Cannal D sitcom Avrupa Yakası, which also lead to his first cinematic lead role as Güngör in Neco Çelik’s Kısık Ateşte 15 Dakika (2006). During this time he also continued his music career with the release of the studio album Makara (2005) and the four-track maxi-single Exit (2006) as well as the TV show Hacıyatmaz (2007).
In April 2007, he started a stand-up tour called Ata Demirer Show which he took around Turkey and to Holland, Germany and France. Upon returning from his tour he took the lead role of Sultan Osman VII in Gani Müjde’s hit comedy The Ottoman Republic (Osmanlı Cumhuriyeti), which was the fourth highest-grossing Turkish film of 2008, and returned as Volkan for two more season of Avrupa Yakası from 2008 to 2009. He subsequently wrote and co-stared with Demet Akbağ in Hakan Algül’s Eyyvah Eyvah (2010) and Eyyvah Eyvah 2 (2011), which were the highest-grossing Turkish films of their respective years. His latest film Berlin Kaplanı (2012) also debuted at number one in the weekly Turkish box office. -Wikipedia
