The Japanese spider crab has the greatest leg span of any arthropod, reaching 3.8 metres (12 ft) from claw to claw. It is reported to have a gentle disposition “in spite of its ferocious appearance”.

Colossal Squid. Though it is known from only a few specimens, current estimates put its maximum size at 12–14 metres (39–46 feet) long, based on analysis of smaller and immature specimens, making it the largest known invertebrate. Giant squid, shmiant squid.

Apparently this is common in Australia:
Haha, nope, never seen one of those spiders in my house. Usually the small little ones that are dangerous, like this charming fellow:
You see these guys a lot though; I have a pet one myself:
My most dangerous in encounters with animals in Australia was with these guys when I accidentally went swimming with a couple:
Also when I was little an emu attacked me when my family was going on a caravan trip in central Oz. Oh and a kangaroo tried to get me once too. Exciting times.
From fuzzy to leggy to dangerous… oh boy this thread…
Adder male- the female is dark and light brown with similar markings-. Wales’ only venomous reptile. Bites are rare and very few of those have been fatal. They’re quite shy, and i’ve only seen 2 though i know someone who found one in her bath, another’s kid found one on the porch.
G-Legs, what is that fish? Did the kangaroo stick you in its pouch?
I live in the suburbs, about an hour outside Toronto. We get nothing! ’cept these:

Almost every night I hear raccoons viciously fighting and squealing.

When I was very young I got in a fight with a praying mantis and won by biting its head off.
@ Matthew: that sounds a terrifying life and death struggle. In Toronto my wife and i were surprised to come across a black squirrel- never knew such things existed. It was very tame and came up to us to be fed at arm’s length.
Some pics I took in Australia, April 2011

@Matthew, it is a lionfish.
EDIT: Apparently that’s for collective, they are called ‘Pterois’.
Interesting fact: A collective group of ravens is called ‘an unkindness of ravens’, or flamingos ‘a flamboyance of flamingos’, or chimps ‘a cartload of chimpanzees’. Endless hours of fun.
