I find it completely impossible to make. One of the reasons why I love 70s cinema so much is that so many of the great films from that era just can’t be simply categorized using one word. The Holy Mountain, A Clockwork Orange, I Will Walk Like A Crazy Horse, Sweet Movie, Valerie and Her Week of Wonders, Eden and After, The Wicker Man and many many more. How can I categorize them? What genre is “The Holy Mountain”? Sci-Fi? Yes. Fantasy? Yes. Adventure? Mystery? Comedy? 3 times yes. etc. etc.

Gangster would be hard cannot bring myself to like The Godfather 1 or 2 (or 3 for that matter)

Not sure where Night Moves fits in but I would put it somewhere

re Jeremi’s point, most of my favourite films from the ‘70s I don’t think of as genre films at all. So I just didn’t consider them when making my list. If I was listing my top ten from that decade, very few of the films I posted above would make it.
