Well I’d have to look through a lot of the movies I’ve seen since then, but right now it comes to mind that I really do think The Fountain is the best film of the decade.

My first reaction would be to say Gangs of New York. 2007 had four films that a really really love though: There Will Be Blood, No Country for Old Men, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, and Zodiac. Mulholland Dr. is up there and I’m pretty sure that it is a lot of peoples favorite of the new millenium.
Number One for me is most definitely Werckmeister Harmonies
rounding out the top 5 would be The Fog of War, There Will Be Blood, The Best of Youth, and 2046
Wow, you just made me realize how few films I own that were released after 2000 (and I own close to 500). I’ll have to do a little research, how sad.
My favorite film of the decade is a film I saw on this very site: Anne Villaceque’s Riviera.
I’ll have to check out Werckmeister Harmonies and Riviera. Thanks for recommending Riviera. I’ll add as a nomination Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Of the others listed, I like Zodiac and No Country for Old Men.

I’m a big champion of Mulholland Drive. I don’t think any other film even comes close to touching it.
After that, I’d say Munich, Children of Men, Yi Yi, Kandahar, Letters from Iwo Jima, There Will Be Blood, The Assassination of Jesse James, The Lives of Others, The Royal Tenenbaums, Before Sunset (definitely), and the two works of Todd Field all have staying power.
Y Tu Mama Tambien – Became a Cuaron fan overnight. Of course i was into the French thingy at the time.
Lost in Translation – See above
Sam Mendes – Jarhead, Revolutionary Road, Road To Perdition. Best director to show America for all its good and bad
Terrence Malick – New World – i am just a Malick fan. I great retold of a classic story.
Ken Burns History of Jazz – I recommend everyone should watch this documentary at least once in your life and you don’t even have to be a jazz fan. Some of the most moving moments and the best stories i have seen were from this documentary.
There Wil Be Blood

Let the Right One In (not for everyone…)
Mulholland Dr. (and to a lesser extent the wonderful meditation on life that is Inland Empire. It’s just not as tight a picture, but worth the effort)

- Bringing Out the Dead
- Gladiator
Well, apart from quite a small number there doesn’t seem much consensus here, which i suppose is hardly surprising.. in this day and age it’s probably harder for a film to stand out head and shoulders above others as a great original masterpiece
I haven’t seen this on here yet, but The Host (2007, South Korea)
Being a Dylan (and Fellini) fan, I’d add ’I’m Not There’. Also- Children of Men, Amelie, V For Vendetta (and I don’t even like Natalie P.!), Howl’s Moving Castle, The Dark Knight, The Prestige, The Departed, The Darjeeling Limited, Lost in Translation, and 2046!!!!!!!!
Memento is one I would put up that has yet to be listed.
To consider a few.. Yi Yi, Cidade de Deus, Oldboy, Mystic River, Lost in Translation, No Country for Old Men, Y Tu Mama Tambien, In the Mood for Love, Amores Perros, Children of Men, There Will Be Blood, etc.
The complete The Wire

What do you guys think is the best film made after January 1st 2000? I’m doing research and would love suggestions.
