I tried this type thread with monkeys a while back and nearly got laughed off of this site. I was all prepared to turn in my ID badge and the secret Auteurs decoder ring when cooler heads prevailed. My self esteem really took a beating and had to lie low for awhile.
Do you realize how many monkeys have been in film? I think they have their own union.

I remember that thread Soybean, that was a great one. But nobody really answered your question, I forget what it was, we just talked about the monkey costumes in 2001, I think.

I don’t know, I like Flike in Umberto D.

Soybean – too funny dude. Yeah, a few folks here get really protective of the sacred Criterion threads. My favorite use of monkeys in a film would have to be The Wizard of Oz. Best useage of dogs – Mon Oncle. Best use of a cat – Day for Night. Best use of a bird…….

…. and btw – my secret Auteurs decoder ring is at the bank in a safety deposit box – isn’t everyones ?

I’m not a monkey, nor an overgrown ewok, I’m a wookie dammit. Why is that so hard for folks to comprehend?

Flike!

I have a question. Why is it that when humans die in film it only on occasion affects us, but whenever an animal (mainly a dog) is in danger people start crying and are emotionally destroyed? Is it because we tend to think of animals as innocent? Do we think humans are flawed and have caused their own problems but when these problems affect animals it isn’t fair?

Anti-Cryptidist just made me mess myself.

the monkey in Elizabeth and Essex
the monkey in The General Died at Dawn (Gary Cooper flic)
the monkey in Raiders of the Lost Ark
the monkey in the Tarzan films (Cheetah)
the monkey in Phenomena (Dario Argento)
the monkey Clyde
the monkey although dead in Sunset Blvd
the monkey Kong
I’m just scratching the surface here. Monkeys everywhere!!!
the monkey in The Seahawk

Silly me. Really gotta work on my Star Wars exegesis.
But wait, couldn’t a Wookie be a subtype of monkeys?
See, Soybean, you’ve only just started with the terrestrial monkeys…

I’ve never seen My Dog Skip but I’m going to cite it just so I can mention Moose the dog that also played Eddie on Frasier. He is surely the Olivier of canine actors

I’d actually have to say the parrot and the fox in Pierrot Le Fou

Doctor Lemonglow

At one time I was impressed with the use of the rhino, the leopard, and the rabid badger in BLACK AND WHITE.
Then I was informed that they were all Mike Tyson, so I guess that doesn’t count.

My vote goes to anything with Danny DeVito. How do they get him to be so adorable?
I’ve seen a lot of neat tricks over the years, but the wrangler who handles DeVito is special.
