Also, Jazz, re your quote – I honestly don’t find that to be all that offensive! Of course, it should be moderated, per the forum guidelines, but it’s so over the top and so obviously misses the mark on Nathan Fuck that it’s hardly an insidious or hurtful attack.

Several things:

1. Whether one takes the quote seriously or not is besides the point. I’m not objecting to the quote because I take what Dimitris is saying about Nathan seriously. It is over-the-top, and it does completely misses the mark about Nathan. But nobody should have to put up with that kind of treatment, period! And expecting someone to refrain from this kind of attacks is not unreasonable. The vast majority of participants can refrain from this sort of posts—including those who occasionally use profanity, express their anger, etc. What I’m calling for isn’t a high standard or unreasonable, is it?

2. When you say the quote isn’t that offensive, what are you trying to say? I don’t get this. You don’t find the quote that offensive. So are you saying that you’re cool if someone spoke to you that way? Would you be cool if someone spoke that way to your gf/spouse/loved one? Now in the off chance that you’re cool with all of these things, you can understand how someone wouldn’t be cool with this—that they would be offended, hurt, angry, disgusted, etc.—and that this would be completely reasonable and understandable response, right? If so, that’s the bottom line.

Personally, I would find it amusing if that attack was against me (and my name in real life is Nathan, so it’s even easier to relate!) or anyone I knew, but of course I understand that most people don’t want to put up with that. But what I’m saying is that I don’t think that warrants a permanent muzzling… just a moderation. Or an ignore function!

When finally it had been taken away to have its venom removed, the citizens, who all felt vindicated, kept debating what had happened. Some wanted it back to roam freely, others for it to be viewed in the local zoo. Some wanted a street naming after it, others wished it had never existed.

(There are not many extraordinary 3-headed creatures and they cannot be confined to a story.)

There should be an ignore function here anyway.

“Ignore” would work fine for someone I might simply want ignore but who doesn’t violate forum guideline (like, say, Likes2Sleep, who communicates primarily in pictograms and anagrams, and therefore to me does not add much of anything to the conversations here, but seems humble and lovable enough). With personal attacks it doesn’t work because profanity-laced tirades about me would still be visible to everyone else and would still need to be moderated. And then of course, there would still be wall posts and the like. “Just moderation” was tried with D for quite a while, he was muzzled, un-muzzled, then “just moderation” was tried again, and still he was unable to follow the guidelines that basically EVERYONE but RUS, Quentin, and Vanselow have been able to follow without getting muzzled and re-muzzled so he got himself shut down again.

The solution is to change the rules for Dimitris and allow him to do more of the same and put the burden on the moderators and admins to control his behavior? Seriously? Does that mean we should invite the trolls, spammers, stalkers, and every dumbass with nothing better to do than make a nuisance of themselves back as well? And, by the way, some of you really need to quit flattering yourself as being so thick-skinned, I’m pretty sure that for at least a few of you, I can produce evidence to the contrary when it was you yourself who was on the defensive. Some of you value his contributions to the forums here very highly. I get that, and even agree with you in large part. Here’s the problem: Dimitris didn’t value his own contributions here enough to alter his behavior. I’ll miss him if he’s never allowed back, but he’s a big boy and he made his own decisions. He was valuable to these forums, but so are a lot of other people, and so would a lot of others have been had they not likely been driven away by his histrionics.

But, hey, he’s a known quantity, so if you all want to keep lobbying for his re-un-muzzling, that’s your right. Personally I’d rather the powers-that-MUBI expend the time and effort trying to continue to improve this site. But maybe we disagree. Good luck to ya.

Here’s the problem: Dimitris didn’t value his own contributions here enough to alter his behavior. I’ll miss him if he’s never allowed back, but he’s a big boy and he made his own decisions. He was valuable to these forums, but so are a lot of other people, and so would a lot of others have been had they not likely been driven away by his histrionics.

One would probably do well to remember that when they get into heated arguments with anyone on here, or elsewhere. I’d assume if one kept a general rule like that around they’d not be bothered by those they believe are advocating an extreme they don’t adhere to.

In the end, what’s truly ironic to me is that all of these attacks that Jazz, Matt, et all are pulling as evidence in favor of Dimitris’ continued muzzling are from Dimitris’ post-muzzling responses to his muzzling in his Profile which, despite the muzzling is still active and apparently unmoderatable and, needless to say, would undoubtedly disappear if Dimitris was re-unmuzzled (For the record, Matt is now being invited to perform cunnilingus on himself which is, um, yeah, probably not helping).

Well, I don’t know that I quoted anything he’s posted there, and I’m not strictly speaking, advocating keeping him muzzled, just suggesting that the arguments for re-unmuzzling him aren’t particularly good on the second time around, and that I’m not buying the Dimitris-as-victim narrative that is being peddled in this thread. At any rate, ironic in what sense? They’re not particularly different in character from many of the remarks that got him muzzled in the first place . . . and the second place.

Dim should be unmuzzled or banned altogether, the current set-up makes a mockery of the muzzling and proves that Mubi has either no guts or no teeth, at least Dim is man enough to scream Bullshit.

If the powers of Mubi actually have the wherewithal to do it, ban him, or let him inflict is rage freely upon the forum.

Well let’s see now. If you are going to give Dimitris hell then you need to give this other user hell too, one “Wanderer” aka “Mark Vanselow” who went on Ben Simmington’s wall today and commented on a post I made in MARCH in which he was NOT a part of the conversation and said this lovely bit about ME:

If Mubi does not do something about this user, who attacked me on a thread he started about transexuals that had nothing to do with movies whatsoever (at least Dim sticks to fucking MOVIES) and has been pissed every since, as evidenced by this remark Ben’s wall from today, that I said that I did not believe that transexuals had anything to do with being women — well then I FULLY SUPPORT DIM GOING OUT AND FLAMING EVERYONE HE THINKS IS A JERK AT ANY TIME AND ANYWHERE.

Apologies in advance for being a “snapping” “Sybill” about people being assholes to me because hey, being insulted when you never insulted anyone NOR have had conversation with the people who insulted YOU in MONTHS means that I have a PERSECUTION COMPLEX.

While we’re on the subject of moderation and deleting posts, would it be at all possible to have my entire history on the forum(s) deleted, or at least ‘Moderated’, so that the posts no longer exist in any comprehensible form?

If I could edit them myself, I’d go through each post one by one and change the text to “…” or something similarly nondescript.

If it IS possible, then please feel free to delete, remove, censor, blot-out and expunge every post I’ve ever made (all 311, including this one) no matter how seemingly trite or pointless. Thank you.
