The General Coming To Blu-ray

Christopher Langford

I got word from someone who works at Kino that later this year they will be releasing Buster Keaton’s The General on Blu-ray. This Blu-ray will have the same extras as Kino’s Ultimate 2-Disc Edition released in 2008.

You might want to pose a question. You’ll get responses that way.

hahaha! This is great evidence of how communication on the internet is weird. Langford has been absent from this site, on purpose to my knowledge, for some time.

I don’t see how this represents a problem inherent with the internet. I know plenty of people that will start a conversation simply by stating facts that may or may not interest the other party.

These kind of threads pop up all the time and it annoys the hell out of me. If you want to make a statement go to twitter.

End of Public Service Announcement. Please note the irony of there being no questions posed by me in the preceding post.

Finally watched “The General” on Blu-ray. Wow! KINO did a fantastic job on remastering this film in HD. I was floored by the detail and clarity, especially if your previous viewing has been VHS or bad public domain video files.

If “The General” looks this good…I can’t wait for “Metropolis”. Will be curious to see if they bring out D.W. Griffith films to Blu.

I managed to see The General a couple of years ago at the large Odeon Leicester Square cinema in London and it looked stunning. For added authenticity, it was accompanied by the house Compton Organ complete with approximations of train sounds belting out every time The General chugged into action – wonderful stuff.

Johnny: The Blu-ray is planned for release this year. Not sure if they are re-releasing on DVD though.

RichmondHill: The Blu-ray comes with three scores including the organ version. They really went all out in remastering the film.
