The Gold Rush...

Which version should I watch? The 1925 original or the 1942 rerelease?

The 1942 re-release is just the original with narration from Charlie Chaplin, and is about fifteen minutes shorter. It’s sort of the reverse of a director’s cut.

I’d recommend the original.

Both.

See the original. Chaplin’s narration is deadly.

The original, of course. Don’t bother with the ’42 release.

And the real sad part of the DVD is that the 1925 superior original WITHOUT Chaplin’s narration is merely a “special feature”

I loved the original gold rush myself, the same as I dislikke it a film is dubbed (voice over) I don’t enjoy it when a film is toyed with, much prefer the original and in it’s original format and language.
