I remember shorts like The Killing of an Egg and Creature Comforts being shown as well as originals like Inside Out Boy. I think at some point they stopped showing shorts, probably adding more commercials :(

The Adventures of Tintin may have been my personal favourite. Also the RML episode “Wacky Delly” may have been my earliest exposure to the concept of avant-garde. I always loved the meta-fiction concept of cartoons making cartoons which Ren & Stimpy also did. The hand-crafted look is pure charm.

Reconstructed episodes:
10 Minutes of Mayo
Over-Exposed Film

Baby’s first anime, thanks to Nickelodeon:

I remember literally dreaming about Koala-Wala Land, and I’m sure I learned the word eucalyptus from this show.

If we’re expanding the topic to include kids’ shows that weren’t on Nickelodeon, then:

GARFIELD AND FRIENDS.

The TV show was so much better than the newspaper strip. The farm group of characters were funny too, though not as good as the ‘wiseguy’ sarcasm/satire/plain wackiness of Garfield. Maybe my first taste of counter-culture.

Also can’t forget Captain N. Though I must swear never to watch it on Youtube, elst I realize how stupid it was.

I didn’t like Eureka’s Castle either. My cousin loved it though, so while she watched it, I would scoff.

Does anyone remember Pinwheel?

I cant believe nobody has not mentioned Hey Dude! OR Salute your Shorts. I love the fact the people actually started this bored because this period is Nickelodeon not the bullshit on tv now. the only thing that would of made the cut would of been SpongeBob, thats it.

What was the cartoon that had:

The gnomes with red hats that lived in a tree?

and the other show had a girl with a kola bear that came to her window.

I vaguely recall liking a show called Hey Dude but I don’t remember anything about it.

I remember Salute Your Shorts a bit better. That was a fun show. But I just looked it up on Wikipedia and I’m shocked it only ever had 26 episodes. It felt like it had at least twice that.

TV season sets being released on DVD has changed our perceptions on the size of a series.

I have no love for Nickelodeon now at this point. It’s pretty much just become the “24 hour iCarly Spongebob LOL RANDOM fart joke marathon” channel nowadays. At least Cartoon Network doesn’t just rely on reruns of their old shows to keep people happy, they have more than enough brilliant CURRENT shows to do that!

However, back when I was young and innocent, I always hooked on Nickelodeon! Rugrats, The Angry Beavers, CatDog, Hey Arnold, I loved all of ‘em! (I didn’t get into Spongebob until I was a little older and I didn’t get into Ren And Stimpy and Invader Zim until MUCH later!)

It was like the stuff of dreams! A whole channel devoted to cartoons and sitcoms! The only other channel I loved more was Cartoon Network, which I unfortunately didn’t watch enough of as a kid, but Nickelodeon was the next best thing!

Also, has anyone seen this video featuring the amazing audio track to “Bye, Bye Beavers”, the intended last episode of The Angry Beavers? Here it is!
