The Good The Bad and The Weird

Wow.
Do not have the words to describe it.
When I was a teenager I saw That Man Friom Rio and thought- THIS IS IT!
Then in film school I saw Raiders Of The Last Ark and thought the same.
Then thirty years later, last night, I saw The Good The Bad And The Weird.
I could not believe my eyes. If I had seen this in a theater I would probally had fainted due to severe Stendhall syindrome.
It grabeed me by the throat from the first minute and did not let go until the last frame.
It makes Raiders look like a Bergman movie.
This movie should be put in a time capsule as the best humanity could produce at the start of the 21st century.
Pure cinema. The joy of it.
And isnt it a shame that Hollywood cant make anything even close to it?

I think it’s a really good film but I wouldn’t use the superlatives you do.

It takes the same story as The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly but refutes the underlying mythology. The ending is fantastic.

I not only saw it in the theater, I was the only person in the theater.

I was pretty blown away by it myself. The first time I saw it there were no subtitles but I loved it still without even understanding all of the dialogue.

I remember there is one part where the Good and the Weird are laying out under the stars talking. It’s a fair amount of dialogue in that scene and I asked the girl I was watching it with what they were talking about and she whispered…“A map.” Ha. I got that much damnit! I didn’t ask for any more translations after that. I saw it again a few days later with subtitles.

I think it’s time to Fan another film. Thanks for making me ponder its awesomeness again.

I agree, I completely fell in love with this movie! The action, dialogue, everything fits perfectly. The man has a great vision that’s for sure! You said it best, it is pure cinema. Easily one of my favorite discoveries last year…dammit, now I’ll probably have to watch it again tonight!

I have a question: I might have some friends coming over the weekend, and some of them like only mainstream films (especially action). Would they have a good chance of enjoying this, too or are there too qualities that would turn off the average moviegoer?

I think it would probably appeal to a wide audience, Jazzaloha. If they’d like Indiana Jones or something in that vein, they’d probably like this.

Although subs are a big issue for many. If there’s a dudded version, you might think about picking it up. It shouldn’t be too bad considering the little dilogue in this movie.

Oh dude, they will love it. It definitely appeals to a mainstream audience. It has quick, witty dialogue, TONS of (really good) action sequences, moves along at a very quick pace and before you know it, the movie is over. They’ll dig it, just grab a few beers and enjoy! (or a blunt or whatever)

OK, thanks! (I’ll report back if I see it this weekend.)
